First of all Merry Christmas to everyone on the Nikon Rumor Forum! I was just wondering what nikon equipment everyone wants or needs for work this holiday season. For myself I'd like a micro lens because I plan on getting into that type of photography in a big way next year. I know tis the season to be thankful for what you have and its not about material things but just for fun, lets hear some people's "Nikon want list" for Santa Claus this year! ^___^
What Nikon gear are you asking Santa for this year? ^0^

I already asked and got a 35 1.8 DX.
After carrying the big guns I was a bit tired and decided to get back to basics: prime, short, light lens.
My first lens was a AF 50 1.4D so on my D300 the newcomer feels at home.
And I'm not unhappy at all. it' a great lens (and not only for santa's wallet) :DPosted 3 years ago # -
Well... I'm about to ask him a FX body next year, I'll be veeeeeeeeeeery wise and kind, promised! :D

Nikkor 105mm 2.8 please!

I asked for a swift kick in my ass and a nice lump of coal. I don't deserve much this year.

airplane tickets to finland this summer for a month and some books.

Not really Nikon gear but I'm looking to get some modifiers for my SB-800s.
But, I asked for a Max Pacioretty Montreal Canadiens authentic hockey jersey (home) so...hopefully that's gonna be under the tree.

I want Nikon to build a reasonable lens for wildlife, 100-500/4-5.6 IS, VRII. I've got a big stocking hung by the mantel, just in case. (Since it's a gift, I don't care about the price.)

600/4 - for next x-mas

Maybe Santa can ask Nikon to build some of these rumored lenses we keep hearing so much about. A nice line of F4 VR lenses maybe? 16-35mm or that nice 100-500mm would be a start. Optimaforever, I share your sentiments on the primes!

I want Santa to buy my mountain bike so I can buy a D300s. Oh, and he can drop a 50 1.2 AI-S in my stalking.

Yes a 17-55mm would be nice but I like that extra 16mm I find I use it a lot it seems. I have the 14-24mm and it just so happens I use the 16 range on it maybe 90% of the time. Do you think they could control the distortion and barrel on a 17-55 FX lens? NSXType-R your asking exactly what I want for Christmas. I really want the Nikkor 105mm micro to. Just the D type I don't need VR. I'd even take the 2.5 Ais!
Hopefully Santa doesn't break his back with all this heavy Nikkor glass....
Merry Christmas! :)

I got an extra quick release plate for my tripod. Anyone else use the Manfrotto RC0 (hexagonal) quick release system? It's a thing of beauty. If you're switching between on and off tripod shots I don't think there's a more convenient QR plate.
Also a field audio recorder, the Zoom H4n, which I am loving but I've always kind of been into audio equipment, so maybe this isn't the place to mention it. I tried it out a bit at a wedding I shot last Saturday (yeah, I opened it early) and I'm pleased with the results. I didn't have much time to play around because I was the lone photographer, but I should be able to have a little more fun at a wedding I've got on Tuesday because I've got someone shooting second camera who has more experience than me (long story).
Last thing, yesterday Nikon Service finally sent back my SB-600 that I had dropped and cracked the xenon tube on. They quoted me $155 for the repair (75% of the price of a new one!), so I refused the service and they finally got it back to me (over three weeks after it was delivered to them!). Happy ending: in the meantime I had ordered a new tube for $11 and I soldered that on. It took me about an hour, and it's working great. Lesson learned.

Glad to hear about your SB-600 jonny :^)
So what's this long story? ;^)
BTW, are you now filming weddings as well with your D90?

long story (you asked for it): my sister is the one who got me into wedding photography by inviting me to shoot second camera for her. 2.5 years ago she got diagnosed with cancer (melanoma) with a bad prognosis (50-50 chance of being alive after 3 years) and almost completely stopped doing photography for money, which is a real pity because she's very good. I was talking with her about this wedding because the bride is a mutual acquaintance, and I almost jokingly said, 'You should come do this wedding with me.' She surprisingly agreed to do it. Maybe she's okay with weddings as long as she's not involved in the post-process. Anyway, I'm really excited about it.
I would never presume to offer videography for weddings, alpha, and I don't see myself ever promising anything like that. It's more like a chance to play around with the video, capture some audio, and benefit the customer at the same time since they might not have a dedicated videographer hired (this last one didn't, for example). Stills will always be the priority, but I figure a few video clips here and there just for memory's sake couldn't hurt when, later on, people ask them if they know of a good wedding photographer.

I'm sorry to hear about your sister jonny :^( I'm glad that you're doing a wedding together though—invite her to come with you on some more—maybe she'll agree (especially if she knows how much it excites you!) :^)
Actually my dad just got a zoom recorder to use with his 7D for taking movies, so I thought you may be doing something similar. I'm not too crazy myself about taking video, but I remember back when there were rumors about video in the Pro-SLRs a lot of wedding photographers were saying it would be quite useful.

With only 4 weeks to go, seems like a good time to resurrect this thread. So, what hints are you dropping the other half if you have one, and how are you going about it? Those members who posted last year, did you get what you wanted or are you still waiting? As for me, I'm hoping Japanese Santa will be able to locate me the 85 1.4G I've had on order for 6 weeks. Sure would be nice to open a shiny Gold box on the big day! Merry Christmas everyone!
P.S. I don't know if you've answered this somewhere else in the forum, but how's your sister doing Jonny?
