if this is correct .. it seems to make room for a FF below the D400 level... D90 but FF?

Maybe the rumours are right. Maybe we won't see a D400 next year. But the probability will be higher if Canon releases a competitor which will force Nikon to change its roadmap slightly.

The argument wasn't comparing the 5000 to the 90. The argument was comparing a theoretical body with the articulated screen to the a theoretical body without.

Are you seriously suggesting that an articulated screen option does not add weight, cost, fragility, or size vs a permanently mounted screen? Leaving it closed doesn't change that. (Though it likely mitigates the fragility issue)

Yeah you're right soap. I shouldn't compare two cameras we can pick up and exam side-by-side in person at the store to see if the variable LCD makes one bigger, heavier, and more expensive. Instead we should compare "imaginary" cameras to our expectations while ignoring personal experiences. That makes way better sense...

PM me if you want to discuss this further.

IMHO - there's no need for d90 update next year, neither d5000 or d3000, this cameras are too new. If Nikon will launch the refreshments, it will only make people angry - especially those ones who bought the current versions.

as for d400, I doubt we gonna see one next year, will lean more towards 2011 - as this would make much more sens for me, new d4 -> new d400 -> new d90 mark II :)

The D90 was up for a replacement in 2010 anyway adam. With canon bringing the 60D soon, the D90 is starting to look old already. How do you think D40X users felt when less than a year later Nikon brings the D60? Hey let's ask Monty11 and find out :^)

1080p video in the D7000 is kind of surprising...
why on this entry level and not the d3s???
however 920k screen articulated would be welcome!!!

For the same reason the video mode appeared on the D90 first.

You're right - you shouldn't - since that isn't the only variable 'tween those cameras.

    I'll repeat the skipped question:

And you'll need to clean out your inbox if you expect PMs.

Yawn there's nothing wrong with my inbox. PM me your charts and graphs showing me how the LCD screen on the D5000 is heavier and more expensive than the D60. You can leave the fragility bar graph out since you answered that yourself.

I will ignore your next response unless you PM me.

If I save about 4 euros each day for a full year, I should be ready when the D400 comes out. The question is: HOW ?

    Any idea everyone ?…

No, I won't sell my D300 but I will sell my D60. How much this will be worth in a year's time ? Not a lot I guess… I might give it to my elder grand-son, but if I do, he may well laugh and say something about a used D3s… :oD

I know Niko, but I thing they should slow it down a little bit - I though that Nikon will be the smart company, unfortunately it looks like it isn't.
I'm quite happy with my current setup, so i guess I'll just wait a little bit more, either for d400 or d4 if I can afford it and get the lenses I need (actually only 3 more - 600/4, 300/2.8 and 14-24/2.8 :))

I guess the D3000 used the same 10Mpx CCD than the D80? Nikon still has loads of them so it was logical to try to get rid of them.
Now about the D90's video feature, I've read in the japanese press that an engineer on the D90 project told his chief he found out that Expeed had enough bandwith during liveview to process a video feed at 720p. Initially it was considered a joke but finally it worked so Nikon decided to implement D-movie in their marketing plan ( not to mention that they probably heard Canon was about to do the same with the 500d and the 5D2, unless this was just Canon's response to D90's war message). All in all, video on dslr has become common, but I'm not sure that Nikon would't have featured D-movie on the D300 if they knew they could at the time. It was probably a better plan to feature D-movie on the D300s even if they could have proposed it as a firmware update for D300.
Now I'm sure Nikon was able to propose 1080p on the D3s but they didn't... on purpose I suppose ;-)
D3s USP (unique selling point, marketing pov) is HIGH ISO sensibility, not the video. and D3s is doing it right.
1080p can be the primary USP of another very anticipated (yet to come) camera, so why spill it on an already well-featured camera like the D3s? Again, that could just be marketing... :-s
Canon seems to have another POV about their marketing approach; their 5D2 had several USP (full frame, 1080p video, high ISO, high MP), and so does the 7D (high MP, 1080p, high ISO) but their AF could see better days.
Nikon knows that they keep us by the guts (I mean... err... good AF and glasses), so they keep bettering one USP each time (after the all-round breakthrough that came with D3 & D300, they tend to progress slowly but surely, one case at the time)...

D7000 A dream come true for video buffs. Probably takes photos so what.
D4000 A D40 with the low light performance of a D90 at budget, so I want
D400 Solid upgrades to sensor. Awesome video. I don't buy prof cameras just play with the cheap gear and try not to drop it.
Will buy full frame when put into prosumer body (12mp is fine) and if it's cheaper to leave out the video I won't complain (AF motor of course).

    Happy D90 owner.

based on past posts and notices, how accurate is this D7000 likely to be? Nr doesn't even mention source or hint of where it came from?

14MP not enough of a bump. To get me to jump they need 18MP, else I will keep my D90 and be happy enough.

Nothing on the new D90 would cause me to upgrade......

The lack of an internal focus motor is a deal breaker. There are tons of great older lenses at excellent prices, that focus just fine, thank you, on my "old" D90

If everything Nikon makes needs AF-S lenses, the price of the used lenses without internal motors will plummet....NAS will be in full swing for us internal body motor folks!!

The D90 is a prosumer camera and as such is made for serious armatures, consumers, and professionals who are either on a budget or think the pro models are too heavy or large for the job. These people often cannot afford several $2000 lenses and as such buy older ones with internal AF. Also 1 big (and often taken for granted) difference between the D90 and the D5000 is the Godsend subcommand dial, which cripples the d5000 in shooting speed and functionality. For the record I also find the d5000 too lightweight and small... The D90, as well D300(s) fit great and have the basic necessities of a serious photographers camera (D700, and any D3(s, x, p, etc)} but the D5000 does not...

Waiting more than a year for a serious update to the D300 could push me and others to full frame, or a dual system. I am looking for more than the D300s provides as an upgrade to my D200.

There is much less need for Nikon to deliver an AF motor in a D90 replacement if it provides AF-S updates (how about faster focusing than the 50mm f/1.4G?) to their dual system primes at 85, 105, 135, 180, and provides some DX wide primes (9.5 mm f/4, 12mm f/4, 18mm f/2.8, 24mm f/2.0). The PC lenses don't have AF, so my 18mm or 16mm PC DX will work on the that camera as well. There is a good range of AF-S zooms, and the new macros all have AF-S.

would be very bad news if the D90 replacement doesn't have an AF motor.

That part of the rumor already got "busted". The head of Nikon's R&D department already said in an interview that any D90 replacement would have an AF motor. His statement came out after these specs were listed. I have my doubts on the 14mp sensor too now that canon has the entry level 18mp T2i with 1080 HD video for $800USD. Nikon's got to at least match that. I'm not sure a 14mp sensor is good enough to compete unless it's got amazing ISO and dynamic range.

I am kinda agree with you here. I definitely like the AF motor is still on board and I am not really care about the Mega Pixal stuff (12Mp is already good for my need).

However, even D90 replacement comes out, it will be an advanced model compare to Canon T2i. So for me I would say d5000 is still the direct competitor for T2i.

I just saw this post and though we should bring it back to do some rumor post-mortem, it doesn't happen enough in my opinion.

looking back, this source was complete BS.

i remember the lack of AF seeming very wrong to me at the time (and to others as well) it seems that skepticism was justified.

I i guess we can assume the details of the D400 are nonsense as well.
