I just did, so I'll see what their answer is tomorrow.
How do you Pronounce "Nikon"?

Nerds. You're just going to over pronounce it anyway like every other American does with Japanese words. Or more likely look like a camera snob. Say what makes you happy - like the brits =D

LOL, got my reply already:
Thanks for the question, it's actually a pretty common one. In North America "Nikon" is generally pronounced "nigh-kon" which sounds like "my". In Europe and South America it's "nick-on" and in Japan it's pronounced "nee-kon" (sounds like "knee"). Any of them are correct though.
Nikkor is pronounced "nick-kor" globally.
Thanks Nikon!

Wow, pretty impressive you guys. It only
took 27 replies to get that resolved. How many replies would it take to get the
pronunciation of "Porche" established?
Oh, that's a different forum. So when it the upgraded D700 going to be
released?

Alpha I think your "tech support" email to Nikon wasted valuable time. The Nikon rep could have been dealing with a more serious question like FoZoom instead :^)

Hehe :^D
They really should actually put something about it online if it's such a commonly asked question though.

It's not

I meant FoZoom :^)

Nice facepalm image, Niko. BTW, how should I pronounce 'Niko'? In my brain I say it NEE-koe. Is that right?
Posted 3 years ago # -
Yeah, me too :^)

Yes, like saying Knee-Co Doh Bee. But, they call me MISTER Tibbs! I mean Doby :^)

Isn't the story about your name that your dad was trying to name you Nikon but your mom stopped him before he could write the last "n"? ;^)

Although it's pretty much been answered, I just want to add that the last "o" should be a long o. So, the pronunciation is close to "knee-cone".
BTW, when Paul Simon sang "Kodachrome" in Japan, he pronounced it the Japanese way.

I still say "Nee-cone" and "Nee-kore" anyway, though those are technically wrong. Ah well, too bad :^P

Here is a Japanese Nikon D90 commercial:

You know, I think you're right. I could have sworn I heard "Nee-kone" in their 90th Anniversary Video...thanks for bringing that up oyabaka :^)

I know it should be Nee k on, but I say Nye con; so I don't have to say it twice "Nee k on... ... you know ... Nye con."

Welcome to the forum Nikon35. I say it like you do even though it's wrong, and I'll blame Paul Simon to my dying day.
Posted 3 years ago # -
I always said it Neye Kon.
It's more of a regional thing in my opinion.
You Brits say aluminium, we say aluminum.

You say Patatoe and I say Potato... You say tomadder but I say Tomato... Patatoe, Potato, Tomadder, Tomato... let's call the whole thing off!...
I say Naikon (Cali's accent) when Im lazy, and NeeyeKon when I'm trying to sound like a "rep"
