So same specs, similar body, but better Jpeg output like DSLR Nikon's can do, RAW etc
I certainly would not want to buy the Leica X1, are you kidding at $2000, oh I forgot it is shipped with LR 2
I don't think even a $ 600 Nikon version would do it for me. I want either a small zoom or a rangefinder SP style

$600 is more than the price of a D3000.

But not a $600. DPReview didn't really give it a good rating.

if I have to pay for it ... I would put money for a better use -> glass
I'd buy it, but I loved my Contax G2 and want another rangefinder. I can't afford the M-9.
Alright so hardly any would spend $ 600 on properly the sharpest pocket size Nikon, how on earth can Leica sell any at $2000 each

That was 4 no's and 1 yes. How big a market would you expect. If the responsiveness was similar to my D90, I'd probably pay $800. And I'd pay for the optical finder. Anyone who's used rangefinders much can understand.
Because it's a Leica, and they can get away with it.
Honestly, I have so many things for my camera I'd buy with $2000. I could get a 105 micro (my dream lens for a while) and still have money to buy a Panasonic Lumix LX3 or a Canon S90 and still have money left over.

$600 is another nice speedlight, another light stand, another RadioPopper, another modifier or two, and dinner out with the wife. ;)

Either you're being conservative with your estimates or you eat really cheap dinners. :D
Speedlights are quite expensive, if you ask me. :D
I paid $70 for my last (used) SB-26 (a steal) and $125 for my last SB-28.
Go nuts and call it a SB-800 @ $350, $50 for a stand, $90 for a RP JRX studio receiver, $10 for a DIY RPCube, $50 for an umbrella, and you still have $50 for dinner!
for $1000 I would go for it, but $2000 is far too much for a camera with non exchangeable lens, even if it has Nikon d300 sensor in it
If it was FX D3s sensor with 28-35 f/2.8 lens and optical rangefinder camera I would be tempted
