Does it really matter who makes the sensor in our Nikon Camera: what really matters is IQ, ISO range, DR etc and Nikon does deliver

The reality is that current sensor design is near the end ways to make improvements, so the Foveon design might be the next step, it might take a few years before it matures to be better than the current bayer sensor design

The Faveon tech is nice but I think many people dont realise that you have to subtract some "light energy" (not because it has to penetrate the silicon) because the upper layers registers the energy of lower layers as well. so the "blue" layer registers green and red and the green registers red as well as green.

And if you think about it.. a 12mp dx like the D300 is only 3mp.

I thought calling "penetration" a process where light goes through something (color layers in this case) while loosing some energy would be OK, I guess I was wrong.
And I was thinking exactly about loosing the resolution in favor of color acutance, the thing is would you be willing to give 3 quarters of resolution to get better color (3Mpix is accurate for 12Mpix sensor). I don’t think many people will, but in any case you do have that choice with Bayer but not with Faveon.
