where there’s smoke there’s forum fire
I was thinking about making myself a little widget to keep track of posts on the blog, when I realized it could be a fun little project for me to share with the forum.
This is what it looks like:
Please just consider this a BETA version, and do let me know what you think! Remember, I'm new to this "widget game," so we'll see how this goes. If you have any ideas, please share :^)

Now that wasn't too hard, so if anyone has any ideas please share them with me—I love a good project :^)
I am not a big fan of the donate button - I even removed it from the main blog page. Constantly asking for money does send a negative message to many readers. I had 3 donations in the past year.
Another idea - can you create two tabs - one for the blog feed and one for the forum feed. Maybe even add a comments feed and a send tips link.
Will this work also on a Windows OS?

I'm not sure what you mean if it will work on Windows. As far as I know, widgets are part of Apple's dashboard. Do you mean would it function as a gadget?
Windows Vista and 7 also have the ability to add widgets (is it called gadget?) on the desktop - I am not sure if they use different technology (it appears that they do, based on your comment). My PC is still with Windows XP and I haven't touched it in years.
I highly doubt it will work. Maybe somebody here knows how to make a gadget?
Hey admin—I've updated the widget so it has a "Send Tips & Rumors" button on the back, and I'm working on those tabs. You can download it at the same link.

I've played with it for a few days and I've still had no luck. I even brought in my techie friends, and they can't figure it out either!
Blast that javascript.
Unfortunately the parameter for controlling the feed source is within the attributes of the widget (I built this off of a template), which are kind of "set in stone". Changing the build of the widget would be like tearing down it's foundation, and starting again from scratch. I don't have the skill to do that, that's why I used a template in the first place!

However, I CAN make another widget specifically for the forum. And if you wish, I can make them for your other blogs as well. How does that sound?

But I did send it to Apple's downloads. They said wait three months and if it doesn't show up I can resubmit it. Let me check it... Yay, it's under Apple's downloads!
