After a year of frustration with carrying my 105/2.8 micro, I just realized it wasn't the over-sized diameter of the lens that made it difficult to fit in my camera case, it was the reversed lens hood. The HB-42 Hood from the 60/2.8 AFS micro fits perfectly on the lens. It protects the front element, makes the lens the same length as the 70-300 VR and it now fits in my camera bag attached to the lens.

I hate the hood on my 80-200. It's shorter than the hood I had for my ∑ 55-200! Humph! :^(

DX uses a narrower field of view, so the hood can be longer :).

The hood on the 35mm 1.8 is near useless. Too shallow.
I leave it on all the time anyway though, just because it's such a small lens I don't even notice that the hood is there.

I never used the hood on my 105 f/2.8 VR... too long ( it covers the focus ring when reversed).
And way too visible for street photography as well (I like to shoot unseen - well, D300 with 105VR isn't perhaps the most stealth combi though lol)Posted 3 years ago #
