I have search the forum for this subject but found nothing, so I need your help.
I am a proud owner of a brand new D3000 (Kit 18-55 & 55-200) and I intend to Shoot more RAW than Jpegs. What is the optimal card speed that my Nikon can use and is it worth the price. I can get a Class 4 SDHC 8 gig card for 44.99$ (can) or a Panasonic Class 10 4 gig for the same price.
Thanks for your help

Hey Edgar, I have had the same issue with finding a good higher speed SD card for my D300s. I bought some photofast SDHC cards(Class 10) and they work great. They are newer to the market, but I haven't had a problem with their CF cards and they are relatively inexpensive in comparison to others.
Here is the link for the site where you can order them, they are the Red ones on the page.
http://www.dvnation.com/Flash-Media-Cards.htmlThere is also a site for the photofast CF cards should you ever need any of those. I have these as well and they are fast and I haven't had any issues with them either, and they are in Canada. Here'e that link.

The number of counterfeit SanDisk cards on ebay supposedly outnumbers the legit ones. This is one place I would NOT attempt to save $10.
There is no reason, IMHO, to believe Adorama / B&H can be undersold on cards by enough to make the risk worthwhile.

As the new owner of a D90, I am also in the market for SD cards.
Andre- I decided to bite. I just ordered one of those 8 Gig Sandisk Extreme III cards from the source you mentioned in your msg. I did note that the ad says the cards are OEM; don't what that will translate into...However, I paid with paypal and a credit card, so if it doesn't work out, I will get my money back. I will let the forum know what I find out. Supposedly, I will get it in a few days.

w/o a forensic tear-down how do you verify the legitimacy of said product? So it looks and performs well today, next week. I'd be worried about premature failure/corruption a year from now. If a (either personally or financially) valuable shoot gets lost 12 months from now - how much compensation is a saved $25?
Do you really believe Adorama and B&H can be legitimately undersold by 50%? I don't.Posted 3 years ago # -
sandisk extreme III (new sandisk extreme) - fast, realiable and affordable (sizes: 4gb - fit's nicely on a dvd, good for traveling, or 8gb when You need a little bit more space; bigger cards don't work for me at all - too expensive, and too big risk of loosing data;
as for the speed, the fact that cards is a class 6 or class 4 says only that the minimum speed is stated, trust me two different class 6 cards can act differently - personally I've sandisk exIII and kingston - both class 6 cards, and the 2nd is so slow comparing to the 1st one
