OK it landed with with flattest side down first, and a lighter camera would properly be slowed down faster by landing in long grass, soft and muddy dirt.
Hi Niko could do us all a favor and drop one of your cameras in a similar fashion, actual try to drop one with video mode, that should make for a great video also. If you decide to drop one of your Nikon's and it end up in million pieces, just again we don't really need to know, on the other hand a destroyed Canon would be OK

The guy just posted the video of the jump. Looks like some trees helped to "cushion" the fall before the impact with the ground.

I don't get you people who don't want falling out of a plane. Look, if you don't think you'll use it, don't complain about it—just don't use it! It can just be one of those features that sits in the menu for you. No one is twisting your arm, and it doesn't make your camera any worse as a still camera. For some of us, it's exactly what we're looking for—maybe more than the quality of the stills. I hope Nikon comes to their senses soon and adds the falling out of a plane or I might have to consider Canon, too.
well, there had to be MASSIVE amounts of cushioning to help that body out. . .it's CAKED in mud and grit. . .I could believe it, though I'd still send it into Melville. . .lol. . .
My grandma's Canon P&S was sent in for repairs because the flash stopped working. . .my poor 85 yr old grandmother went, I'm not kidding, 15 MONTHS without the camera, because Canon couldn't repair it, couldn't send me a refurb, and then lost it for a solid year. . .it ended up shipping to an old address of mine (I had given up) and got redirected many months later. . .long story short, wherever Canon service is, I will NEVER do business with them again. . .
(this forced grandma into the digital world, which is probably worse for her since she can't print it out directly, but whatever. . . .)
