Ilford Photo went into bankruptcy couple of years ago, that should mark the end of film era photography for most of us.

Because there are still some photographers who still only shoot film! I met a few at my local help-portrait.com session.

Intersting topic however, I hear that Nikon like most companies have no interest in producing new film bodies. Too bad I hear Leica feels the same way although lots of talk about a new M film body but why? The M9 is so popular. Back to Nikon, what would you add to the F7 to make it better than the F6? The F6 is pretty solid I thought.

Ilford Photo is alive and well, producing 99% of what they did before the management buyout. And to be pedantic, IIRC, "Ilford Photo" is the name of the spin-off company post-Bankruptcy. IIRC the whole enterprise was simply "Ilford" prior.Posted 3 years ago # -

AF sensors are about the only place the end-of-line F series is behind current, no?

Every year I'm having a harder time getting my film developed locally :^(
I think there will always be a market for film though just as painting didn't disappear when the camera started taking people's portraits.Posted 3 years ago # -
yes I agree that there are many people who will never give up film thats for sure. So comparing to the D3 you mean the F7 would be a sports camera. High frames per second. High shutter actuation count etc then. The F6 is getting pretty dated I agree with you. alphanikonrex, your not liking the digital era I take it?

Here's a comparison (I also added the D700 just for the heck of it):

That's not to scale though

Similar features and such.
As for me liking the digital era, well I'll put it this way: I spent maybe 6 months seriously with film. I have no experience whatsoever with film. But one of my dreams is to get an F7 sometime in the future :^)

as in:
Better color management
"Info" button
bigger screen
bigger sensor
wider ISO range
dual card slots
virtual horizon (THAT would translate to a film body)
What else am I missing?Posted 3 years ago # -
You've got a point soap. I think I'm just complaining though because the F6 looks so "old" compared to the digital cameras!
And if it could use EN-EL3e batteries that would be nice.
Posted 3 years ago # -
Ahh - EN-EL3e batteries! THAT's an upgrade I could get behind.
(though, honestly, I'd likely stick with my F100 ;) )Posted 3 years ago # -
Those Dylan pictures weren't taken with even an F6. I'm with soap. Now, if you were going to put a digital sensor in the F7, that's an upgrade I'd get behind. ;-)

+MB-D10 compatibility?

We already did that—it's called the D3! DUH! :^PIt is actually called D700, almost identical body and I prefer the smaller size ;]
D3 is more like F5 update ...
But seriously how F6, being a film camera, could possibly be updated, it even has EXIF info recording capability!Posted 3 years ago # -
What you wrote at the start of the post alpha actually made me want to test something.
So i went up to the addict and got my old computer, petium 133 mhz with a 1gb hdd in it, its been up there for.... quick calculation says 16 years aprox. and our addict goes from +40C in the summer to minus 10C in the winther.
And yes, windows 95 is still on it and its working still!.
So if a hdd isnt in use for a while i reckon it should work fine.
Still have an old raptor in one of my other machines running fine, its been running 24/7 for many years now in my 2nd server.Don't think there will be no more film cameras comming out tho, hehe.

I doubt we will see f7, or if any then not before 2014, AFAIR f6 was reales in 2006, and Nikon analog slr lifespan is app. 8 years.
