Got it, have never used it. Does anyone, and if so what for? Maybe I'm missing a trick. I can't remember, does the D4 have it?

Yes, but I have never used it... probably should as I have CRS, but just do not...

Never used it myself (don't have a D3S) but one time I was shooting a hockey game and a guy with a D3S was shooting next to me. He was using the voice memo function to remind himself what happened during certain sequences (for instance, team scores go-ahead goal with 2:30 remaining in the 3rd period). He told me that on a night when he takes a few hundred images it's very helpful.

Use it all the time. It's great to take quick notes about a photo, person, place or thing+phone numbers.
Been using it from the D2 days. When we went house hunting 4 years ago it was better than slice bread when trying to remember why I took the photo after looking at 6 more homes. 1st picture of each house documented address, price and 1st impressions.
I love it.
