    Hey guys/gals,
Thought i'd pass this along for those that care to try out "newer" bodies during the holiday season. . .I have a D200, so I figured might try out a new body for vacationing :-)

As long as you get your rental commitment on a 10-day rental BEFORE Dec 25, you can keep camera until Jan 4 without extra charge.

    COUPON CODE: holidaze

    I rented a D5k for $68+shipping ($25) - from Dec. 16-Jan.4, 2010!

Looking forward to messing around with cool angles and "gaining" an extra f-stop over my D200 for those low-light shots. . .

Was going to "try" a D700, but $330 for a "vacation" body was a bit much. . .wanted something smaller and cheaper to rent :-)

I got this email from them today, and went ahead and rented a Tamron 17-50 2.8. Yeah, it's not a really sexy lens; however, it's something that I've thought about getting as a direct replacement for my 18-55 VR.

I hate to be anti Nikon even for a second, but I would like to be blunt and say that I would SPENT A LOT OF MONEY to just rent a Leica M9 for one day. :)

I'd like to try the BIG 24-70mm Nikkor as well. I'm curious because I use primes right now in that range.

I put up some comparison shots of the Tamron lens and the Nikkor 17-55 f/2.8 in a different thread. The short story is that I love that Tamron and can't see why you'd pay the extra money for the Nikkor. Two years of good times (and pretty rough use) and it's still my walkaround lens.

No problems everyone...I've only rented lenses from them before but never had a chance to score a body for nearly 20 days but only paying for 10!!

I do make a habit of renting a lens before I buy...did the same with my 17-55, 11-16, and 14-24 (only one I didn't buy after realizing the weight to cost factor leaned towards the 11-16)...enjoy and happy holidays!!

Man, I can't wait to get my lens. Oh wait, I have been waiting, for over a week now.
I placed my order with borrowlenses on the 14th, they didn't ship it until the 17th, and then it was delayed by the big east coast storm, and just today 8 days later they finally attempted to deliver but no one was home to sign for it.
I finally sent them an email this morning:
"Hi, I ordered this on the 14th, as part of the holidaze special, it took until the 17th for it to be shipped, even though it was in stock, and it still hasn't been delivered."
    Here's the response I got:
    "Robert,

I'm sorry for the mishaps going on with this order. Since you didn't select a specific date, we gave priority to other orders going out over yours. We shipped it as soon as we could thereafter. In the future, please indicate an arrival date, or we will assume that you can take delivery any given time. In any case, I apologize for the inconvenience.

    Here is your tracking: http://www.fedex.com/Tracking?tracknumbers=432859960982

12-19 : Delay beyond our control

12-21: Local delivery restriction, delivery not attempted

12-22: Customer not available or business closed - Signature required

Are you having severe weather in your area? It appears that way, otherwise FedEx is being uncharacteristically behind schedule. In terms of todays status: customer not available, FedEx tried to deliver but they didn't find anyone to sign. Were you available when the package went to your shipping address earlier today? They will attempt delivery tomorrow as well, until they can get the signature necessary to leave the package.

Please let me know how I can help from here.

    Lisa"

OMG that is horrible - I am so sorry!

Yeah, I had some issues with delivery, but had it sent to my home; they are HYPER vigilant about having someone sign for it.

I would ask them to waive the shipping charge or get money back given the issue.

Good topic! This is a heavily underated service people can use especially when traveling to a once in a lifetime location where a "sweet camera" could really come in handy! If you go to Nepal for example, why not bring a long a D3x for landscape if you think you might not ever go back? You will need a strong back though!^^

No I haven't, but I have been to mount washington, rocky mountains, Sapa in Vietnam and countless other spots where I have ignored tremendous amounts of weight in order to make sure I have the gear for such wonderful spots. I am 30 years old now and I have back problems I'm sure as a result. D3x is the altimate landscape camera maybe it was not a good location comparison.

Oh and adamz technically I guess you could say I'm traveling right now haha I live in South Korea (esl teacher/photographer local mags) and I haven't lived in my home country (Vancouver Canada) since December 2001. I've seen lots of locales these past 10 years, but it gets hard being away from home especially this time of year...
