Nikon has responded to me and three other people with the EXACT SAME PASTED RESPONSE as follows:
"Thanks for the question. The focal length (and f/stop) of any lens is calculated with the lens focused at infinity. When you focus closer than that the apparent angle of view (and effective aperture) changes.
Depending on the optical complexity of a lens the angle (and f/stop) may change significantly at minimum focus distances or different zoom levels. We don't publish any specific angles of view data for anything but the standard - infinity focus. We don't do any direct sales or refunds so I'd have to refer you back to your dealer. I am sorry that the new 70-200 doesn't meet your needs but the focal length calculation is done by the standard methods and you will see the same results for many lenses."
In all of the 4 total e-mails, the exact same response was sent, so two more lenses are being returned now (still keeping mine).
