I change lenses all the time with the camera and VR on. You should be able to readily do this. I'm very used to changing lenses like this from shooting for ages with my film Nikons.
to quote nikon : be sure the camera is off when removing or exchanging lenses.
also quoting Nikon: do not turn the camera off or remove the lens while vibration reduction in in effect. If power to the lens is cut while VR is on, the lens may rattle when shaken.
My question is , if Nikon states in their manual to turn he camera off before changing lenses, and it is so easy to turn the camera off, why would you change lenses with the camera on?
Yeah yeah, I know, you are going to state that you know better than the maker, and you have always done it this way.
This will most likely lead to a short circuit of the contacts [somewhere down the road]and damage to the camera and or the lens.
Would probally end up for sale on fleabay or craggylist and the unsuspecting buyer will probally end up here, honestly trying to find out why his/her lens/camera gives trouble.
It is sad that appox 70% of the problems with camera equipment has to do with user error and not equipment.
as an example, bring your engine up to 3000RPM and popping the clutch will always give you better aceleration, however..............................the maker does not recommend that you do it that way.
