Photography has been a hobby of mine for the past 5 years or so and I also shoot photographs of completed projects for my Architectural firm for our marketing. These projects of public schools, grades K-12. I have been viewing many of the comments on various websites and reading many articles in many magazines and there has been much discussion and debate over DX versus FX. I have also had many questions and participated in many prior posts.
I could be wrong, but I have concluded that for me DX is best for me. Cost being the most important factor for me. I do enjoy using the full functioned D300 and hope that future versions of this model remain in DX format.
I previously owned the following FX lenses that I used on my D300 and determined that this was just too much money to have invested in photographic equipment considering that I am not a professional. So when all of the Nikon lens prices went up earlier this year, I was able to sell all of them for significantly more than what I originally paid. I was very fortunate.
AF-S 50mm F/1.4G
AF-S 14-24mm F/2.8G
AF-S 24-70mm F/2.8G
AF-S 70-200mm VR F/2.8G
AF-S TC-17E II
I now own the following DX lenses:
AF-S DX 35mm F/1.8G
AF-S DX 85mm F/3.5G VR (Just ordered today from B&H Photo)
AF-S DX 10-24mm F/3.4-4.5G
AF-S DX 18-200mm F3.5-5.6G VR
AF-S 70-300 F/4.5-5.6G VR
All of these lenses have been purchased for approximately half of what I paid for the above FX lenses.
I have also based my decision on the fact that Nikon is for me anyway demonstrating that they plan on continuing with higher quality consumer DX lenses in the future. This is based on the AF-S DX 35mm, AF-S DX 85mm and so on. I just hope that I am correct, for now I have made a significant plunge into DX and I do not think that I will be as fortunate in the future with any potential sale of existing equipment as I was in the past the FX equipment.
Here is the question for the day. With the information that I have provided, do others agree with my decision, direction and choice of lenses?
