Very interesting. I can see this on an entry level canon soon but not for the pros. What do you think?
I think my nose will bump into it and mess things up.
I think it won't have a monitor cover and it will crack and break.
I think it'll have only 100 shots a charge.
I think it's going to be a typical Canon.
does the iphone only get 100 shots?
does the iphone have a cover?
do uncovered iphone screens crack?
More than likely the people who get this camera would be shooting via live view more often than looking through the viewfinder. Plus it could have a sensor like other DSLR that detects your eye up to the viewfinder and turns off and locks the LCD
But the iPhone's from ! This thing would be coming from Canon!
I'm just complaining here. I don't really see a point in a touch screen on a DSLR. But you're right, consumers would be using it with live view. But I don't like touchscreen 'cause they get all messy when you touch them and then you can't see what's onscreen.
iphone is made from parts of many different companies. What's to say the exact same manufacturer doesn't supply canon with a touchscreen LCD module that they can just slap onto a DSLR or the rumored mirrorless EVIL canon camera?
I'm sorry to break it to you (haha), Niko, but my iPod touch screen just broke last week. (I know, I know. If it seems like I have things break often it's because I have two crazy boys.) But I think it would be much harder to break one on a camera. I never used my cover on my D300 and never got a scratch on it.
I think the touch screen would be very cool with autofocus if you could use your finger on the screen to track what the camera should focus on. It would be especially useful in video.
Yeah I agree witcha jonny. If the interface is as easy and useful as the iphone's then it would be a huge entry level advantage for canon. No more hunting around pressing up, down, enter, ok to change settings. Just point tap and go.

If it's literally an iPhone on the back of it then I wouldn't mind a touchscreen. But if it's going to be one of those crappy imitations, forget it.
alpha, think of it this way: how could do anything but improve canon's UI?

I don't really care. I hate these consumer things. I was heartbroken when the D3S got video.
Why would video's existence matter to you, alpha? It apparently didn't hurt the thing's performance much.
Where do you draw the line at consumer things, anyway? Some would call autofocus a gimmick.

I hate it when people think my camera shoots video. Because then they think I'm shooting video and then when they find out I wasn't they get annoyed with me.
I hate it when people ask me to shoot video. As long as I can't, I won't. Even if I can, I won't. But I hate lying and saying that my camera doesn't shoot video. That's why I opted for D300 even though we knew D300S would be coming soon.

Usually it's the stuff that surfaces in consumer cameras first. Though I do respect the quiet mode originally in the D5000.
I think the touch screen will only be a gimmick if it does not offer anything special that you can not already do otherwise, like try to use the Nikon S60 touchscreen to many controls are now a lot more annoying and time consuming to use
I would like to have a touchscreen if following could be done
It can be turned off and most functions can be done with regular buttons
If you could check spots on screen for histogram etc, just move your finger over screen and you have instant histogram readings
Use the screen to zoom in and adjust left,right, up and down
So lets get Apple and Nikon to have a bit of a roll in the hay and see what we could end up getting

Yes. I would love my iPod's interface for image review on my Nikon. Perfect match.
Oh. Also, I would like to browse NR forums on my wifi-equipped (I know, alpha, more consumer shovelware), touch screen D800.
