Adam's right about safari. It's color-managed and firefox isn't, so firefox won't always (ever?) correctly display images with Adobe RGB or ProPhoto RGB—and since they're wider gamuts the colors will look undersaturated and have low contrast. But why would the photos be in one of those spaces if you're exporting in sRGB? I admit I'm stumped. Have you put it up here? The adobe guys with their names on the LR splash screen are really good at getting back to you fast there.

Wait, do you get extra saturation when viewing in firefox? Which is which in that png you posted?

Also, when I open in Photoshop, I don't. Also, whne I open in Preview or Quick Look (using a Mac) I don't. So far, I've narrowed it down to just being a problem with Firefox.

Have you recently re-calibrated your monitor profile? I don't know about color management on macs. Do you have a photo viewer besides firefox that isn't color managed? If that displayed them the same way firefox does, it would let you know that it could be because safari, LR, and CS are using the (wrong) monitor profile to display the image because they're profile-aware.

Tried opening the photo in iPhoto and alas, I get the same color discrepancies. Is this profile-awareness is causing my photos to be displayed incorrectly, or is the lack of profile awareness in other programs causing it? In other words, should I attempt to make LR, Photoshop and Safari all not profile aware, or does this ruin the point of calibrating your monitor? Is there any way to have the best of both worlds?

Two things:
- You have unchecked profile mismatches warning so as Niko suggested you do not know if you are opening a picture in some faulty color space or not and Adobe will use that one instead. It seams that you are using DELL 2408WFP monitor as a default color space on you Macintosh, is that really your monitor? Try using generic sRGB, it works reasonably well with most monitors and it can reveal seriously faulty ICC profiles.
- The other thing your Convert to web dialog shows GIF as a resulting file and that is definitely wrong as though you have provoked a bug in a converter. Try converting your photos to sRGB using Edit/Convert, reduce the size of your image to a1024 by something smaller and check Embed Color Profile (checking Convert to sRGB again should not be needed in this case) in save for web dialog.Posted 3 years ago # -
Firefox does have ICC color managment. You just have to enable it.
If you have the latest version 3.5 then read thishttps://developer.mozilla.org/En/ICC_color_correction_in_Firefox

It is enabled by default in Firefox 3.5 ... and works well for me at least

Yeah, it's been enabled the whole time, which is good.
mb, I followed all your directions and the problem persists. I am using a specific color profile that was made with the Spyder3 calibrator... the rest of the defaults were very off.
Alas, maybe a reason to use Safari is presenting itself...

Use Safari! Safari 4 is awesome! Why do people use FireFox anyway? I hate 3rd party stuff.
While you're at it you can switch to Aperture LOL ;^)

The problem isn't your browser. Your photos are being embedded with the wrong color space. The clue comes from where is this Dell monitor color space being embedded? You need to tell us exactly how your going about with your digital work flow.

Remove SD card from D90. Place into monitor. Open Lightroom. Lightroom prompts me to import photos from device. Use the following settings:
http://www.kellenfreeman.com/other/importsettings.png
[Photos import and render 1:1 previews.] Edit pictures.
Option 1 (what I typically do): export images with the following settings:
http://www.kellenfreeman.com/other/lrexportsettings.png
[80% since they're going to be minimized in tumblr anyway, and tumblr only accepts up to 5MB photos.] Upload pictures to tumblr.
Option 2 (what in order to try different color space stuff in Photoshop, as it has more control over it): In LR, click edit -> in Photoshop CS4. Then follow mb's advice and save for web with the following settings:
http://www.kellenfreeman.com/other/psexportsettings.png
And Firefox messes it up every time.

Wait how are you placing your card into your monitor? Do you have a card reader hooked up to a usb off your screen?
How and from where are you saving your photos as .png?

I have an SD card reader in my monitor... I also have a USB card reader as well, should I give that a try?
.png is the default filetype for screenshots.

Seems like it's a problem with your monitor's color profile and Mac OS color sync. They seem to be conflicting with each other :^(
Have you had this monitor for very long? Try Dell support and good luck.http://benzilla.galbraiths.org/2009/04/21/dell-and-apples-color-confusion/

Post a link to a photo you're working with not a screen shot. Try to bypass your monitor and download directly to a usb on your mac

Here's a discussion on problems with that monitor and macs from apple boards. Might help you.

Wait for the second link, when I hover over the image, I get zero change in color.

Well this seems to have the answer. This monitor is not very good for color editing and working in sRGB in general.

That's too bad.
I say get an monitor! ;^)
(Of course while you're using Safari and Aperture)

Apparently some people have returned this, so I'll see how I fare on that. Problem is that I got it as a gift, so I don't have any receipt or anything... I'd also have to like, figure out how much I'd get back for it and calculate the difference between an Apple monitor or just dealing with it. Hahahaha.

I don't like the new displays actually. I don't think the glossy one's have good color reproduction. My dad with his new iMac is jealous of my good ol' cinema display :^)

Have you tried Dell support? That apple discussion was over a year ago so maybe an updated firmware set things right? How long have you had this monitor? Was it passed down to you? Seems like something you "could" live with for a while if this was a gift.

Seems like something you "could" live with for a while if this was a gift.It was a gift from last Christmas, so we're coming on a year. If I were, in a stroke of luck to get a refund (but I doubt I'd get it), then I would probably get an old Apple monitor, as the new ones cannot connect to my older MBP (because apparently there's no female DVI to male mini-displayport connector, only the male to female).

Wait so you had this monitor for a year and you're only now noticing this problem?
