Willis - I love the stapler. Very cool.
Pete - Gorgeous shot. I like your DOF. I always struggle with that.
Shutterdancer - I love the colors.
Gentoo - I like this image both times you posted it :)
    Pbrigido - Pretty whites!

Great shot there, Jessi! Nice arrangement, color, contrast, and bokeh on the tree's lights in the background.
What do you use for editing? One thing I might change is that the lights at the top edge are burned and I would mask that from the burn/vignette that you applied. That's some serious nitpicking, though. I love the shot.

Jonny and Gentoo - thank you so much. I use Elements usually but with this I was in a hurry so I just used Picnik.com. I am still learning how to use Elements and Picnik is so easy.

Here's part of a sensor from a bricked point and shoot that I took apart and looked at with a microscope. I had trouble getting it level, so let's pretend I wanted the edges out of focus. If you ever wondered if those Bayer pattern fairy tales are true...

What's the magnification at Jonny? That looks like wrapping paper to me :^)

I think it was a 100x objective. What I can say is that the pixels are 2.3 microns on a side (it's a canon A85 sensor, which is 1/2.7" and 4MP). To put that in perspective, the 12MP D3s has pixels that would cover 13 of these (8.4 microns on a side). And incidentally, one D3s pixel covers 30 of the pixels in one of the 12MP sensors in powershots nowadays. Let's see, a factor of thirty is about 5 stops of area (2^5=32). Sounds about right.
edit: canon sensor, olympus camera taking the shot, posted on a nikon site. Where are my loyalties?

Here is a slow shutter speed shot. Let's just say I am getting bored with being stuck inside during the winter months...and it shows!

Thanks! The worst part is that if my real handwritting looked like that, my wife might actually be able to read her Christmas card this year!!

Quantum drops. Beautiful. (if you don't know what I'm talking about, look at this for example. It's quantum dots of different sizes in solution fluorescing under UV light.)
