In celebration of the coming storm, here's a shot from Hurricane Irene last year. The bridge in the background had only been opened a week before, and I was standing on the temporary bridge. I beat the police to the scene, and they beat the actual reporters to the scene, so I'm the only person who got shots from on the bridges. :D

@msmoto: What an amazing sky. Love it!!!
@Postman: Thanks for taking me there. You rock!
@WarEagle & mk2pop: You guys and msmoto got all this action stuff down. I'm ready for some lessons please.
    @proudgeek: Nice shot.
@Juergen: She is "Hot!" Great composition.
@Bland: You picked the right time to get the shot...given the light. I need a cold one now....thank you :P

@jonnyapple will pay more attention. Thank you for the feed back. However, I think the fact that the building on the right is taller than the left, it just might seem that it is off.

Well I was issued a mandatory evacuation this morning. Looks like I'm in for a rough ride. I made a quick outting this morning and found this red tail hawk. For everyone else in the path I wish you and your family a safe passage!

Thats the tricky thing about landscape and architecture. Even if it only "seems off" it, in fact, still seems off, if you know what I mean, and thats all thats going to matter to the viewer. :]

I couldn't decide which version to upload, so I created a duo of Alberta landscapes.

The left is the original angle and treatment, the sepia version was flipped to give a bit of symmetry and it's easier on the eye.

This thread has some outstanding work on it. And very helpful comments as well. My share for today is another wedding shot...

@ coastalconn, that photo, IMO, is one of the cleanest and most pristine views you've produced. Best of luck with your evacuation. It's a PIA i know. Sandy skated by us with not much to say. I've got relatives in Toronto who are now watching closely.

Thanks guys. Great b&w landscape, proudgeek. Makes me want to go climb a sandstone tower! :]

Squamish, funny that you mention this. You (and your climbing photos) were on my mind when I was out here. This is called Fisher Towers (this structure is known as the Amphitheater). The two towers to the left are frequently climbed. In fact, on the other side a series of climbing ropes were in place. If you go to youtube, you can see videos of people making this ascent and going from one tower to the other. This section is known among climbers as Ancient Arts. It's also the scene of a very well known Visa commercial. If you want a little perspective, check out the walking path in the lower left portion of the image.

I dialed back the sky a little using Viveza. Very tough shooting. Super flat light, with the sun behind the towers.

@proudgeek In order to prevent the sky from being "blown out" next time meter for the sky, and get proper exposer...given the F-stop and shutter speed you want. Then re-compose for the mountain, but don't change your settings and take your shot. Make sure you shot in RAW. Don't worry after taking the shot that your picture is dark...that is normal. Once you are back at home and on your computer, during the post processing you will be able to bring back all the lovely detail of the mountain, and your sky will not be blown out, hence no high-lights...and you will be able to show the beauty that you where trying to capture. My free advice for the day....cheers.

    Oh and.....nice shot! :D

Geybagel, the composition and lighting work for me. I like mist it provides opportunities for some neat stories.
Proudgeek, your photos bring back memories of the times I used to hang around Moab. Nice shots.
    Kanuck, beautiful.
Coastal, thanks for another great osprey shot. And take care. We hope to see some more shots soon from you.
Pippigurl, yes, mist and elk. Location?
Just an awesome morning of these and other images!

Shot this mornings out the window of my house as my wife walked the dogs in the start of Hurricane Sandy. Tonight high winds and heavy rain are expected to start and last for two days.

@shutteredglass - nice snap, great use of available light
@Pippigurl - good composition, but for what sake You put f25? the diffraction is destroying the beautiful scene. You could easily achieve the same effect with f8 and much lower iso (currently iso 3200) and get more dynamic range. though, as I wrote at the beginning, good composition and nice mood.
@kanuck - nice mood, good execution, great colours but is it so heavily cropped or what happened in PP

@adamz I want to thank you for taking the time for your comments. That is why I am here to learn and see how others do it. I understand your comments about difraction and the part the smaller f/stops play with the loss of sharpness. I am unfortunately guilty of that more than I would like to be. I always seem to be more concerned with dof than anything and lose as you say the dynamic range. I need to take mor etime and apply the science. Again thxs.

    Nice church scene Msmoto.
Whoever gets a visit from Sandy, good luck!

    Light Cube

My share of the day. Initially I wanted to take a photo of the light cube only, which is an art project from Australia. As I got ready, the girl stood in front of it and got her picture taken by her boyfriend. The light amazed me, so I asked her to face the cube and try not not move for 3 seconds :-) She was happy to pose, her boyfriend seemed to be in a rush :-)

proudgeek, the Fisher Towers are pretty amazing, however they are perhaps the most notoriously loose and chossy of any of the desert towers and thus only a few unique and daring folks ever make the journey up. Protection in the cracks is worse than anywhere else really and thats saying something since desert pro is notoriously iffy anywhere you go, but the Fisher Towers have a reputation for not holding protection at all - its the consistency of dried mud in some places. Sort of a "no falls allowed" ethos usually rules the day. :]
