The PAD photos are really super. And, a get together would be nice. Old thread to be relighted....

Agreed, a get together at a photogenic locale would be pretty cool. It would be especially interesting to see what happens if you let us all loose on the same site at the same time, and see what each of us takes away from the same scene.

I feel like a strong 3:2 crop is possible of the lower part of the image, but it's already cropped from 3:2 to 4:5. This film holds plenty of detail, but that is stretching it. I have an idea for using the full negative, but I need to get a second shot to sandwich with this negative. The empty sky in the upper left of the full frame needs something to fill it.

Not a popular shot this one, but personally I like it for the soft pink tones. Maybe there is no real focal point and I have done a slight painterley process to it.
Maybe I am just emotionally attached because of all the pain associated with smashing my elbow just before this was taken.

@OnTheRopes - beautiful, so soft and smooth, is it a crop or a pano?

Bland, well a happy birthday to you. Please enjoy it when it comes. But please no mention of joining the elderly. I have 9+ years on you.
Get togethers can be really nice. Anyone up to a visit to Yellowstone next May? Late May is when there are a lot of bison babies and elk babies, wolves and G. Bears out and about.

Yeti, I've been gravitating more toward b&w on landscapes recently. My thought is that when you remove the "color" from the equation, it allows (or forces) the mind's eye to place more emphasis on things like form and texture, which are found in abundance in images like yours. I even went to Moab last spring and processed a bunch of stuff in b&w, something you would think would be counterintuitive given the colors there, but I was pretty happy with the results I got.

@ Adamz - Many thanks, it is quite a heavy crop as whilst the foreground had interest the light was flat and I could not get a crop I liked. It is still a whopping 7360 x 2366 though (17.4MP)on the d800 so more than enough.

@ Yettibuddha - If you actually get that Yellowstone meet organised and it is over a few days then I may, if logistics and my finances allow take a trip over from the UK. I have been looking at making a trip to the US and Yellowstone but the cost of organised winter trips are rather prohibitive.

    +1

I have family in the US too that are always coming over here, so I'd look at coupling that with a visit to them over there. Yellowstone is a place I really want to visit.

@Regulator75 - love the colours, how do You like working on such a "tiny" panorama :) ?

No issues here. ;) I love pixels peeping with those huge D800 20 image panoramas.

@adamz: That second Corcovado shot is truly good, but the first one was even more stunning.
@rschnaible: My first reaction: this time, you overdid it in PP. My second reaction: wow, this is a hell of a stunning picture - maybe it was that contrasty, and little was done in PP. Anyway, on third look, I find it awesome.
@Dutt561: My wife and I agreed: exceptionally well executed composition - and the color contrast is "right on the money", too
@coastalconn: you can ditch your 500mm tele any time now and go birding with a wideangle... I think that all the birds in Conneticut are now on a first name basis with you. Hey, it's not a criticism, it's envy. Great shot, again!
@golf007sd: Just wow. ...and the story is good, too.
@jerl: those dusk shots are tough to nail ... you did it
@Kanuck and @Ironheart: nature shots as I like them
@Benji2506: I have tried to capture a "beach foot print shot" a few times, but this one is the one I envisioned, but never scored.

I can probably make it up for a Saturday in May. Not too excited about the g bears.

Graybagel, my wife saw your photo as I was perusing the thread and she thinks you look like Jonny Buckland. That's high praise, since she's partial to Jonnys (or at least me) and we both love Coldplay. I'm seeing the resemblance; nice portrait.

Adamz, welcome back. Love the Cristo Redentor shots—I prefer the first one.

Great photos, everyone! I love being busy for a while and then catching up. There is so much amazing work here.

Cattle Watering Trough. To create the flowing water effect, I dared to handhold 1/20s with a 300mm lens. Isn't VR wonderful?
