Thanks msmoto~ I appreciate it Juergen and AvadheshMalik. So many wires making the job look very difficult for her in your shot Juergen wow. AvadheshMalik nice silk like details and awesome tones as well solid work. Great to see some early fall beauties PB PM and Tcole. Funny caption and truthful Wataru haha nice perspective too :)

Great start to October!
Well I won my first thing today. My Osprey shot from August was nominated for photo of the month on the photo forum and I won! Front page for a month and $25! Anyways more importantly I was out shooting Ospreys again today.
If you ever wondered about Osprey Belly?

Looks pretty good full size http://www.flickr.com/photos/coastalconn/8045503602/sizes/o/in/photostream/

costalcon: many great bird shots, tell us how you do it. Do you know their flight path back to the nest or perch and place yourself so they fly directly over you?

@framer - Given how well I know high schoolers (wasn't so long ago I was one myself, and I work with them sometimes nowadays)... that's better than what most kids will come up with, last second or not.
D800 - Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8 VC - 50mm - f/8 - ISO 400 - 1/30sec

@Donaldjose, First, thank you! Since becoming sober I've become addicted to birding. I used to fish all the time and always saw the Ospreys, thought they were cool, but never really picked up a camera. This summer as my addiction grew, I used some of my fishing knowledge knowing where baitfish would be hanging out. After thousands of shots "practicing" I found a few incredible locations based on tide. After I found the Ospreys more frequently, I realized they almost always take off into the wind. So using tide, wind direction and time of day I have been able to position myself in some ideal locations. There are tons of nests around here but none of them are very accessible so most of my shots are over open water. The one from today was the same spot where I got my awesome one a month ago. Low tide, hiding in some rocks close to the water.
I'm glad people enjoy some of my shots, I have put countless hours in trying to improve. Birding is a very unique aspect of photography, little control of light and no control of your subject. Some call us spray and pray but there is a reason why Nikon made such an amazing camera in the D300 with the AF system and 8FPS with grip. It has really inspired me to get out there and has really helped me get shot I would have missed with my D90. :)

@ Squamish: your portrait lighting is amazing and amazingly effective
@ coastalconn: congrats, you deserved it! The new shot is in the same league.
@ msmoto: what a character; he'd likely approve of that pic, too.
@ hammers71: etheral bokeh, I envy it.
@ kanuck: Most stunning architecture shot I have seen in quite some time@everyone else: I have learned from every single picture this month!

This is my first attempt at merging two photos... Pretty crude. Photoshop is written by advanced beings.
The moon was shot at 120mm - f/11 - 1/20 of a second.
The background was shot at 24mm - f/3.5 - 30 seconds. If anyone has better suggestions for merging to photos like this please let me know.
edit - the moon is quite zoomed in from its original size. :)

Great photos everyone...
@El_Pickered....noticed you are using the Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8vc with rhe D800. I have been pondering a possible purchase of this lens. How do you rate this lens please especially compared with the Nikon 24-70mm f/2.8 I would also appreciate comments from anyone who has used both lenses....thanks!Posted 7 months ago # -

The beauty of a lady riding her bicycle with a bottle of Nitrous mounted to it is just breath taking. ;)

@squamish : nice !!
@coastalcon : great description ! .... I was going to ask you myself how you do it. I have always tried to shoot flyers and found it very difficult to keep the focus on ! ...@beso : would've loved to see some more of the sea on that one ...

I am not much into portraits, but some people inadvertently become my targets. My close friend Zenith, an Army doctor, is one of those with a 'never-say-die' attitude and a ready smile ... here he is !!!Posted 7 months ago # -
This is really a fine group of images. Makes me want to forget the coffee I am drinking now and head out to practice photography!

I love a good landscape, and you're a frequent poster of good landscapes. I'd doff my cap to you, if I was wearing one.
Would I be able to find your Iceland shots anywhere?
