I experienced it. It was @@@@@ horrible! Car abandoned halfway down the street wouldn't move for about a week (ironically, not even DOWNhill), country brought to a standstill. So slippery even the tiniest incline defeated most vehicles. Day after day after day with no break, never going above freezing. Many roads un-gritted because the country was running out of salt.

That's a bit harsh, adamz. Our weather isn't that bad.

For the film scanner, I'd suggest buying one (secondhand?) then selling it or passing it on to a friend. No one needs a scanner for long.

Pete: You can buy one of those accessories into which you slide the transparency and take a picture of it, or look for a second hand slide scanner. I have a Nikon coolscan which works fine (A bit slow may be but worth the wait)

Pete - if You find solutions for Your slides, please let me know, have a lot of them to digitize.

Nothing personal exit. You're new here so just give us some time to "adjust" to your "style". I'm glad you feel comfortable enough with the forum to "hit the ground running" with all of your "quirky" responses. Believe me it took a while for others to warm up to my antics too :^)

Oh and I took your advice with my pinhole. It's taking even better and sharper pictures since I coated it with the ointment you suggested ;^)

I think I am missing something here fellas, and I think you might be too ...there is no acid in my voice, no fireworks ...I am not built that way ...its all friendly, you fellas really have to have a cup of tea when you read me.

I must admit that I didnt like the word 'stripper' Jake is 17 Louis is 15, they are gentleman (especially Jake) and its not really a topic for discussion in our house. Off topic, but I've only been using autofocus for the past few years, and I love it, but find it very annoying at times. Usually start a shoot with it on, then end up shutting it off (of cousre, dependant on what I'm shooting).

I have to admit I've enjoyed watching you and Pete have some mental duels on some of those threads. You're on opposite ends of the autofocus spectrum, so it made for some good fireworks on the zeiss thread. I'm more like Pete about autofocus, but like I said I wouldn't mind going back to manual focus for some things at some point for old times' sake.

They kept an ocelot for a pet and when I asked them how tame it was, they showed me some scars on their arms from when it was feeling frisky and their torn-up front door from when it wanted in. It was a beautiful cat, though. I think I've got a slide of it somewhere. Now that Pete mentions slides, does anyone know a good and inexpensive way to digitize slides for someone who doesn't have their own film scanner?

I feel for that starling. Ouch! Utah is a great place for pictures, and not just the national parks. Two places close to home that I've been meaning to visit are the Kennecott open pit copper mine and Antelope Island out in the Great Salt Lake.

Again joke aside' I have been to that part of Utah near Moab, you could spend days there at any time of the year, like this one in the winter, one of these days I should get my slides scanned from the trip to Utah
