Your 35mm 1.8 will work on the D600 - good little moody looking vignettes but if you are using VSCO it would probably work well.

Personally 50mm, 35mm, 85mm are my first three preferences in that order for primes. 24mm/28mm, 60mm and 105mm are my next. I tend to like longer lenses rather than wides at the moment though.

I love the 60mm and it would be a good double duty as a 90mm portrait on the DX camera if you want something with some range and great close-up/macro work.
I have always loved the 24mm 2.8 as well. Great compact lens and good price on it usually used.

If you are looking for Bokeh - get the 50 1.4 or 1.8 for the D600 - it is just nuts how different and better FF looks wide open. It would be a shame to have FX and not get the good bokeh. Not sure what to do with the D5000 then. Without the focus motor you are really limited with options. To be perfectly honest, when you get the D600, I doubt you will use the D5000 much anymore.

My D600 is coming tomorrow and I still haven't figured out which prime I want to put on it. I don't plan on switching out my lens.

I'm keeping my D5000

Neither of the above statements makes a lick of sense to me, but if it were my setup and I was buying just one FF lens:
Sell the 5000 and the 35mm, buy the 50mm f/1.8 G and a SB-700.

I am always amazed by someone asking for advice on the lens to get. Sure, some are sharper, faster, manual or autofocus, but the focal length seems to me to be purely one's personal desire. I like wide, so I would say the 24 or 28mm to begin with. Or an FX 35mm on the D600.

For sure, I would not purchase something in a hurry. Maybe find a used lens and try it, if one wants something shorter or longer, then less is invested and it is easier to change.

I know that the 85 is too long for my everyday photography,

Depends on you but you could probably still make it work if you want to. I have 85 on D7000 and love the look I get with it. On FX it would actually be close to what 50 would give you on DX.

Think about it this way:
28mm or
35mm (DX) = 52.5 (FX) or
85mm

The choice is simpler this way. Wider or narrower than your current lens, which do you like?

VSCO is a set of Lightroom presets that mimicks various films...best way I can describe it. I love it.

I know that the 85 is too long for my everyday photography, but I'm intrigued by the 60mm rec. But then it's close to 50mm, no? Even if it's touted as a micro, I'd still use it for everything. LOL I also think the 24 might be a tad too wide? The 35 has served me well over the past year.

I'm getting cross-eyed and confused everytime I read up on the various lenses.

50 on FX will look very similar to 35 on DX. Given the choices I'd go with 28 myself. More opportunity for creative framing that way. Go with 85 if you like portraits though.

whats vsco? sorry not too familiar...

it depends what you need the shot for. if the 35 is too narrow on DX often, then it might do to get the 28.

as an aside, if you have two primes, in the under 100mm range, people normally pair a 24 with a 50, and a 28 with something tighter, 85mm short tele or 60 micro.

My D600 is coming tomorrow and I still haven't figured out which prime I want to put on it. I don't plan on switching out my lens.

I'm keeping my D5000 with a 35 1.8.

If I pick up a 50, then I can get the VSCO 2.0, an x-passport and a couple of good SD cards. But I fear this would be redundant given my current camera/lens.

If I get a 28, then well, there's no room for the extras for a little while. But, I have VSCO 1.0, decent SD cards and I tend to fiddle with my WB anyway.

I shoot for fun and if I were to define what photos I take most, they're lifestyle/street type of shots.

Or should I consider something else?

I'm going to grab the new lens tonight or tomorrow so I have it in time for tomorrow's delivery :)

Thanks!
