Chrome OS will be cool and it is a great idea, but I think it needs to be more effectively integrated into a stronger machine. The fact of the matter is, if I have to opt to get two computers (one for internet stuff, one for photo processing, word processing, games) then I won't get two computers, I'd rather just stick with what I have.

I will say that if you could somehow mate the Droid Phone minus the phone (keep the 5mp camera) + the Apple App store + Web OS, you'd have one pretty kick ass device. Take photos, edit them on-device, and upload directly to the cloud... I won't lie, that would be very sweet.

Maybe there is a Google Cam in our future. (Nikon P&S are crap anyway :)

Comparisons to OS X or Windows aren't really valid. While I love chrome (the browser), I'd never use Chrome the OS for anything other than a net=book. Chrome OS was designed from the ground up to be a cloud base computing system.

I stand squarely in the Anti-Cloud computing camp. For business use its worthless, becasue it relies on a internet connection... no connection, no apps. No apps means no work gets done. Even from my fancy synthetic mahogany desk, in a big office building, my connection drops from time to time. I'm also not to keen on storing sensitive company information on remote servers.

For personal use, its also useless. At least for now. Imagine if you had to upload your photos to some remote server before you work on them. My 6mp D40 pictures take about 30 seconds each to upload to flickr. If I did a shoot with hundereds of shots, It would be hours before I could begin working on them, and then it would feel like I was doing my editing via VPN.

My wife has been asking for a netbook, and I convinced her to wait for Chrome OS to come out after seeing a netbook boot up with XP (it was painful). As far as switching on my desktop when it comes out, I'm with you Niko—too many potential compatibility issues.

So what do you guys think of Chrome OS? With so many programs/photos/drivers I'm not sure I want to "switch" to yet another operating system :^(

Is this going to get thrown out along with the Ricoh GXR?
