As I am from europe and the local prices are too much, and if I buy in USA/Canada I will be probably hit with local customs...

Several years ago I owned a couple of photo labs and was a dealer for Canon and Nikon. Here is how the Nikon thing worked back then.

As a Nikon dealer you were required to carry and sell X amount of product per year. Lets say X is $50K. At the end of the year, if you hit your sales target you would get a 5% rebate from Nikon or $2,500 in this case. Most retailers, especially the high volume guys, know they will hit their target and get the 5% back. In this situation it is not uncommon for a retailer in a competitive market to factor in this rebate and sell at a cheaper price then you would expect. The bigger guys like Best Buy/BH/Henry's probably get even bigger rebates and can offer "big box" pricing. Also, every time Nikon release a new product the first on a retailer buys is call a demo and goes for 25 - 50% off the normal price. The business owners usually snap these up.

Canon is completely different but as a retail owner you can buy a camera directly from the rep for personal use at cost - 10%.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you know Nikon dealer personally you can probably get a good deal.

My Parents live in BC also, and always come here to Red Deer to save on tax, are you staying dry out there

That lens is currently listed with 2249.99 CDN at the local camera store so not so much difference to your corporate pricing.

pacific - sure I want one, but the problem is that You are in Canada, and I'm in Poland :), and unfortunately the plane ticket to Your place will cost me more than the price difference :( although if I ever go to Your beautiful country I'll certainly be more than interested

Adamz. its corporate pricing from my supplier, not Nikon. Up here they can sell for less, and I buy most of my stuff from them, that combined with being a Incorporated Company gives me the deal.

Adamz....MY cost is what I'm going to pay for the lense from my source. I get a Corporate pricing for it, and pay cash so no 3% visa charge for them either. That help?

how do You get the "My cost" - can You clarify this please, as it's something I'm not familiar with

Adorama is at $2,399.95 pre-order. You guy's are getting a good deal (and national health care too).

Not sure if anyone wants to know but I just got the My cost for the New 70-200 f/2.8 VR II, its $2229.00 Canadian, or approx $2095.00 USD.

Anyone get a cost in the US yet??
