I don't support the closing of the threads, but I suppose that's the way it's going to be.

To me, it's like interrupting someone else's conversation. If there's two groups in a room discussing the same thing, are you going to tell one of the groups to shut up and go join the other one?

I say just let it be.

all users, who's topic has been altered has been informed through PM's. There's no censorship on this forum, neither non of us (mods) get anything from Nikon. Moreover, if You will follow the threads closely, than:
- You will notice, it was me who brought the 70-200 distance shortening topic over here,
- discussion on the "closed" topic hasn't been altered in any ways - no posts were censored
- the discussion become too personal, and that's why the topic has been closed

Jonny....I agree that dupicate threads should be refered to one. Just to clarify, My thread was about "When do we say Enough", I did use a reference about the VR II, but it was not about that lense, MY Bad I Guess, maybe I should have used the 18-200 instead. It was about Accountability.

Then they can discuss it in TWO other threads.

Niko, this thread is more meta—it's about censorship, and I was using the 70-200 as an example. Willis posted about the 70-200, but I was using this for what the title says—to discuss censorship on NRF.

I think a better idea than closing Max's most recent thread about the emails would be to ask if you can move it to the 70-200 thread. If he refused to let you move it after you explained why:

Jonny....I couldn't agree more, and personal attacks are definitely not acceptable. I just sent a PM to Adam about closing the first thread till Saturday, now I come back and another is closed that speaks to the answer from nikon about the issue. I don't get it. Whats going on? Is Nikon calling and saying they don't like the comments? Close the thread cause we know its true but its bad publicity? I have a discussion going with Nikon right now, and its a good one. I would like to have posted it, but now I don't know if it will get closed.

Agree... I'm on the fence about which 70-200 to get. I'd prefer to keep as many of these going just to gather as much information as possible. I'm still waiting on a comprehensive analysis of the focus breathing at various distances. Something like

10 Feet = 135mm
15 Feet = 150mm
20 Feet = 175mm
25 Feet = 190mm

The information on the web is so varied right now that I keep seeing different numbers.

I just posted a response from Nikon about the 70-200 II issue. The thread was quickly locked. For a moment I was annoyed, but then I thought, "what else is there to say?"

Locking the thread was probably a good idea and the info is what it is.

If you want to see real censoring, try Nikongear. That site will put a hit out on anyone being "mean" to Nikon!

Maybe I've missed something, but I think even though there have been two sides to the debate there haven't really been any personal attacks. What are the rules for closing a thread? Does having more than 100 posts in a day automatically mean it should be closed because it's such a hot topic? Or even if the posts start to sound repetitive, is that reason enough to close it? I stopped reading the 70-200 one because I thought everyone had pretty much had their say, but leaving it open doesn't mean anyone -has- to read it. I think unless someone is really getting offensive (and I mean personally offensive, not just attacking someone's idea or attacking Nikon which are both entirely different beasts), the threads should stay and they should stay open.
