If you must print on your own, then get the best Epson you can swing. I recommend using Epson and Ilford paper. I hear lot's of good about Moab brand papers also.

Keep in mind, your local lab (not Costco or Walmart) will give you better prints (in color, contrast and archive-ability) than most consumer printers.

I have used EPSON printers and they are very good if you use EPSON papers, but I prefer HP because it works better for me on a broader range of papers.
Right now I would go for HP Photosmart Pro B8850 Printer, as an old model it is affordable at around 400$, or if you want latest and greatest HP B9180 Photo Printer that is a bit better but much more expensive at 700$.
And if you want predictable results, accurate colors and your work to last I would use only original inks.

Epson 3880 - probably the best You can get with an affordable price tag, use it if You print a lot, if not go for lab

I'm glad you asked, but I'm not going to be of much help either. Looking forward to some good responses, tho, as I'm also considering upgrading to a good 11 x 19 photo printer.

Define high end and professional in terms on what you are going to print, what sizes etc

Ha! I use Costco :)

I use a lab. Either Replicolor in Salt Lake City or Kenny's in Orem. Sorry, no help here.

OK, so its upgrade time!!! I have been going over the mutitude of high end printers available out there, and holy crap its just painfull.
So I am wondering what everyone else uses for high quality, and reliable professional grade printers, and would enjoy hearing your opinions.
