Studio, I have been waiting for manual control for my D300s ever since I bought mine in October. I think the next camera line up will have the manual control and something better for us that have been waiting patiently.

Aha! So, I was daydreaming about buying either a D3s or a D3x, and I found through some fevered Googling last night that the D3s does in fact have manual shutter speed and ISO control in D-Movie mode! Wickedly odd how Nikon "hides" this feature, even omitting its mention in the manual. Did the 300s ever receive a similar capability in a firmware upgrade as others have mentioned?

I read somewhere that the rolling shutter was still present, but the results were much better compared to the D90 and D300s (cannot remember the site).

The shutter is open the whole time. What changes is the integration time—how long it's leaving the pixels 'on' before measuring how much light they've collected.

I'm curious to know if anyone has seen a difference in the rolling shutter problem at different shutter speeds.

Just a question, is the shutter really moving even when it's a video?

I would expect the sensor to be exposed, or else how would it take video?

A D90 firmware upgrade could happen but I'd heard the D90 can't get full manual video controls for some tech reason. I forgot what it was.

Does anyone know if they are going to do a firmware update for the d90 then that will allow you to use the same controls?

That's good—not that'll I'll never need any of that stuff. Maybe I can convince my dad to trade in his 7D for a D300S then :^)

The online Nikonistas "interview" with Carlos Ormazabal, Nikon Product Manager for Spain, also mentioned that the D3S has full manual control of aperture and ISO and that a future firmware for the D300S could give it similar control.

I was trying to find out this for a reader (maybe it was you who emailed me). Thom Hogan mentioned on his site that there is a manual control:

"The video user has control of aperture and shutter speed, and the ability to select an Auto ISO barrier..."

Is it there? I know there's the "tripod mode" where you can control the iris, but can you also control the ISO as well? You can do that on the 5d mkII, and i'm seriously hoping nikon has their act together on this.
