On-camera format is a quick format and won't discover and mark bad sectors. I would do a low-level format of the card on your PC, and a chkdsk (with the repair flag set) to verify there aren't more errors than can be remapped.

You need to try a new card and take a few pictures that does not count, try all the different Image quality modes

If you camera looks to be OK, then try your best to recover images, then if that works or not get the card replaced (Sandisk have a Lifetime warranty, hopeful this was not one of these hot ebay deals)

Good luck

Pete

Quite possibly it could be the memory card. How old is it, and how much use does it get. The other thing, do you just delete photos from the card, or reformat.

Hey all,

Here's a question: I took pictures of sunrise in the SF Bay Area and I noticed that there was a 10 minute gap in my pictures that shouldn't have been there (I didn't stop shooting...) and I checked my card. Now there are a series of about 40 shots that are all .NEFs but they cannot be opened by photoshop, nor my D90 when I put the card back into the camera.

Anyone have this happen to them before? Potential causes? This is with a SanDisk 8GB Ultra II
