I own a Nikon D40, D80 and D7000. I am using the D7000 most of the time nowadays, so that ought to be my favorite. However, there is a lot to be said in favour of the D40 as well, the handling and size are fantastic and I prefer the CCD sensor (compared to the CMOS). Shame it is only 6 MP and the low light performance is not really good, and shooting star trails would be a lot more difficult with a D40. Otherwise it is an amazing camera.

Started with a Nikon F. Then an FTn Photomic. Bunches of Leicas (RF and SLR), Olympus, Pentax 35 - 4.5x6 - 6x6, Rolleiflex, Mamiyaflex, and a couple of dozen P&S 35s (loved the Rolei 35).

Now,

Nikon F5
Nikon D200
Nikon D700
Nikon D7000
Nikon D800 (just got it last week)

A dozen or so Nikon lenses, from the 17-35mm f/2.8, 45mm PCE, 70-180mm Micro, 70-210 f/2.8
VR, 200mm f/2.8 (!!), 300mm f/4.5.

Favorite? D700, until I get to know the D800. Really dislike the D7000. Bought it for shooting video.

Different ones for different purposes, but all Nikon.

As to the current crop of digital cameras I don't like going older than the D90 because I want to use Picture Controls and fine tune them. The D90 has more than enough resolution for PAD, 8x10s and sending photos by e-mail. Larger files just waste time for those uses. If I want maximum detail I shoot the D800. But I think the resolution of the D600 is more than adequate 98% of the time and I appreciate its lightness (especially when pared with some lightweight old AF lenses such as the wonderful 28-80 f3.3-5.6G) compared to the heavy D800. I don't have a D4 but surely would prefer it for sports or times when I wanted speed. I think my "perfect" FX/DX combo will be a D600 matched with a D7200 (when it is out).

In the past I have owned many cameras. 35mm thru large format. I do not miss film cameras now at all. I got rid of many medium formats after side by side testing with Nikon F5 and micro nikkor lens. Best film camera was the nikon F5. And a couple of medium panoramics. I sold most of all of these. I have owned D100 through Nikon D700. My favorite of all of these are D300, D90, and D7000.

D5000 until i purchased the D800,
35 1.8DX was on the d5k until i started using the d800, so now its a 50mm 1.8G 90% of the time ( it works for the stuff that i see)

for events and the like, 24-85mm vr(surprisingly good), 70-200 VRII). (on dx used the 17-50 2.8 OS Sigma, which wasn't a bad lens at all)

105mm vr(sharpest lens i have other than the 70-200) to take pictures of flowers around the house.

a 28mm 2.8D to travel really light (althought it really isn't very sharp especially if you pixel peep ( so really since i dont even do heavy crops, not that big of a deal ))

one sb-700 ( debating whether to get another or an umbrella and a light collapsable stand...)

next is either zeiss 50mm 1.4 ZA.2/ 85mm 1.4 ZA.2 or deal with the UWA situation (14-24mm or 24mm 1.4G), but since i'm currently going to school full time that will have to be on the back burner : )

No way do I want to list everything I own.

I have a plastic tote full of Minolta cameras (6) and lenses in my storage unit.

Nikon D70S, my first digital and haven't touched any of the Minoltas since I got it.
Two D300 Nikons, my favorites until they both quit working.
D7000, current camera of choice only because D300's are broken. Will sell it when D400 appears.

Nikon 105 f2.8 macro
Tokina 12-24 f4
Nikon 80-400 VR
Nikon 70-200 VR II
Nikon 200-400 VR II

As you can probably guess from my kit, I'm mostly into wildlife photography.

I see someone had my old fav camera, back late 50's the Kodak Brownie Hawkeye (still have the pics), then the Minolta SRT102 (1975), then (1985ish) the Minolta X700.
I took a sabbatical till 4 years ago when I got the Nikon D90. Last Xmas I got a D700 that was good, but wasn't getting enough use so sold it recently.
I love the D90 and have several FX lenses that work well with it. Maybe one more before I go to the great photo lab in the sky, D800? D600? D900?

    Nikon FM2n
Rollei 35S
Rolleiflex 3.5F
I also have a Nikon D 80, but it is not in the same league as the above cameras. Someday I hope to get either a D 700 or a D 400.

If the F6 had all it's features and was the size and weight of the FM2n and used 120 film like the Rolleiflex, then it would be my favorite camera.

Let's see:

Canon Powershot s30 (1st digital camera from 2002; still own and still phenomenal for 3mp)
Canon 40d (1st DSLR and excellent IQ; no longer own)
Nikon D80 (2nd DSLR and pretty good IQ; slow FPS, slow AF, CCD-type sensor = avg. ISO)
Canon 5d2 (good camera, but kinda dated also. Forced Nikon to step up game; no longer own)
Canon Rebel XS (same sensor as 40d; crappy AF, crappy FPS, cheap build; no longer own)
Nikon D700 (bought near-mint for $1,350 & immediately sold for $2,200; nice camera though)
Nikon D800 (current and only DSLR -- exceptional; outshines every area of 5d2; revolutionary)

How did I miss out here....

Nikon F (2), Nikon D90, Nikon D4, Minolta Autocord, Olympus 1030SW, Kodak No. 2 Cartridge Premo, Calumet 4 X 5 View Camera
Nikon 10.5mm to 400mm and about 15 in between, 90mm Schneider Super Angulon
Favorite? The Super Paparazzi (D4) is the obvious performer, but the “F” bodies have an appeal and as I grew up on them, it is almost as if they are the cameras, the D4 is some magic machine which records images. If one sneaks over to PAD, some of the early shots with the “F” bodies in B & W will be showing up from time to time...along with all the scratches and grunge in the negatives which have been scanned.

1. Nikon D3s
2. Nikon D300
3. Nikon D800
4. Nikon F5
5. Nikon D7000

In that order. Ever since I got the D3s I have used it like there's no tomorrow. Never had any issues with it. Still love my D300, just a great camera and still keeps going. D800 is on the move, just haven't had as much time to use it properly, as it more of a camera one needs to take their time with and is really meant for tripod use in my opinion, whereas the 3s and 300 just pick'em up and shoot away. D7000 I like a little less than the rest, not overly impressed with it but maybe just haven't used it as much as I originally bought it as a backup and for the video capabilities. Love my F5, but finding less and less time to actually use it.

Nikon D7000 (the best APS-C DSLR on the market so far)

Olympus OM-D (lightweight, small, ultimate image quality for a m4/3 sensor device)

Samsung NX10 (cheap, stealthy, w. excellent pancake lenses available, mediocre sensor)

Nikon Coolpix AW100 (a really nice, cheap option for underwater photos in good light)

Nikon F-301 (for some rare occasions I might shoot a roll of film. Maybe. Or not.)

--------
Cameras I had : Nikon EM film SLR, Pentax KM film SLR, a Zenit film SLR, a Minolta film SLR, Canon 400D (my first DSLR), Canon 5Dmk2, Canon 7D, Nikon D300S, a few Nikon Coolpix cameras, a few Canon Powershot cameras, about five film pocket cameras.

-------

Of the cameras I currently have, the Olympus OM-D has become my favorite. The 12-50 EZ zoom is the best kit lens I have come across. And I like the 45mm f/1.8 a lot as well. The 12/2 m.Zuiko is my favorite though. The image quality is comparable enough to D7000 at high ISOs as well. There are some things the D7000 handles a lot better, though. One is fast action and moving subjects.

At 65 years old, I have been through a lot of Nikons.

Started with a Nikkormat FTN to long ago to admit. Still have it.
Added Nikon EM, FG, FE for lightness and auto setting speed.
Purchased N6006, N8008, N80 and N90s just for fun to see how they worked when they were so outdated they were dirt cheap after digital SLRs became firmly established. That N90s is one fantastic bargain today in a film camera with its professional heavy duty design.
Purchased F3, F4 and F5 bodies to compare their design once they too were relatively dirt cheap.

Started back up with digital photography with the D80. Added D90, D3100, D5100, D7000 and D800.
Struggling now a bit with the size of the D800 files in consuming time during processing and storage space. Lusted after the ability to make huge prints, have made some now and don't want to keep making such huge prints. Still learning the D800 but also now attracted to smaller size files. Maybe a 24mp D600 or 24mp D400 will be a nice compromise. Would love to have a 16mp D4 but would rather spend that money to get three camera bodies (D800, D400, D600) than on just one. Just think of that! If the D400 and D600 both sell for around $1,500 you can get one of each and a D800 for the same price as a D4. That's really a lot of photographic value if you don't need the extra speed and robust build found in a D4.

MikeFrewer said:
Rather than go through everyones profiles to see what equipment you all own. Just out of interest, I'd be very interested in the following.
Which cameras do you own?
What lenses do you own ?
What photography do you do ? (i.e. sports, wildlife, portrait, landscape or weddings)
Do you make a living from your photography ?
Are you waiting to upgrade to a better camera or buy a second ?

I'll start off with my bits.

I currently own a Nikon D40.
I had the standard lens 18-55 until I fell over a branch in a forest at the Rally Alsace.
I like motorsport and wildlife photography.
I am an enthusiastic ametour photographer.
I am waiting for a camera with better fps for my motorsport. Laptop and storage comes first though.
