guys please, the fact that a grip costs 1/3 (1/4) the price of original doesn't mean that it will destroy Your camera. I was using one with my d300s, d90 and never had any single issue with them - both of them were plastic and I'm using my cameras as a tool to get the picture not as a envelop holder on the desk or sth I put behind a glass - if You know what I mean. so if You want to spend $400-$500 on an original than do so, if You wanna save a buck or two than get a replacement one and You can still get at least 2 more en-el15 for the price difference.
the only one question I still haven't found the answer is the ability to use d4 batteries with the off-brand grips.

Is this strictly a question about functionality/reliability of grips, or could a malfunctioning grip actually damage the body proper via the batteries it's holding?

I've never used a battery grip, and I don't know the electrical side--please advise. Thanks.

and why some people buy VW over Skoda

There is a difference, a big one, I would love a VW but bought a Skoda and used the saving to buy a D800 and some nice glass

Not too sure about buying a cheap D800 grip as it does change the FPS (the main reason I use one on the D700)

Didn't I read on here that there are problems with the off-brand grips for the D800? It wasn't clear if all of them are less than good, but there were some details about the build quality that made me think they don't have the underlying quality that is necessary for them to last like a Nikon item.

The Nikon Version IS a rip-off though.

and why some people buy VW over Skoda if it's all the same - brand is the answer. Meike doesn't mean nothing for 99% of consumers, whereas Phottix doesn't mean nothing to maybe 60-70%.

I have a Meike grip and it's 100% same as that of Phottix, but why Phottix's price is so very expensive ???

Phottix has too many products which are same as other factories' products. I think they are only buying from other factories. In my opinion, I have no reason why I will buy Phottix in view of this high price.
