Please put a name on your thread which has meaning. Then define what it is about. What are you trying to find out? Maybe you should list the lenses you think you can afford and let comments drop on those. Or, do a forum search on the lenses and see what folks say. Thanks.

And both are good lenses, being paired with a D800 body. I have a few choices:

1) nikon 50/1.4 af-s
2) Nikon 50/1.4 d
3) Sigma 50/1.4
4) Nikon 50/1.8g
5) Nikon 85/1.4 d
6) Nikon 85/1.8g
7) sigma 85/1.4

I can't afford the 85/1.4g. And realistically, I'd rather go with Nikon over Sigma.

My 85/1.8d is in great shape and takes sharp pictures even close to wide open. I've held and shot with both the 50/1.8g and 50/1.4g. I think the 1.4 has better build quality and both are extremely close IQ-wise. I liked the feel of the 50/1.8g over my older 1.8d. It is a larger lens and it handles well. Lots of options here
