I don't have an attachment for the DSLR, so I can't really upload photos.

The model we use is the Alphaphot-2, I don't know about the dissecting scope though.

Not every lab uses the microscope, and I'm not a researcher, so I don't always get access to the microscope.

Impressive. I work with Nikon microscopes and dissecting scopes at school. They're pretty good. But then again, I haven't tried any better microscopes. The oil immersion is a bitch though. I can go up to 1000x with that, but I haven't mastered it yet.

The D3S and the 85mm lens weren't the only new toys Nikon unveiled :^)

http://www.nikoninstruments.com/News/US-News/Nikon-Instruments-Unveils-A1R-MP-Multiphoton-And-Confocal-Microscope-System

We also get a new Nikon microscope, YAY! Damn and the A1R sounds so cool for a digital rangefinder. I'll even take it as the APS-C COOLPIX A1R-DX. That sounds cool doesn't it?

IF I had the money I would get this camera on the spot, I have shot indoor BMX at 3200ISO like the one on my Flickr site and it was barely OK. I could properly get same result at 12800 ISO, with now either more DOF or higher shutter speed, WOW

We can complain about higher MP but this is by far the best Sports Camera Money can buy, Period

Because it's going to be in the D400?

Besides, if they put the boost in the D300S they might reduce D700 sales.

It's funny how people complain that Nikon doesn't have enough VR lenses and then when they announce a VR lens they complain that they don't need it?

The 12800ISO samples I've seen are really impressive. Why couldn't Nikon give the D300S this much of a boost with that tweaked sensor?

Yeah, I'm not sure why there's a $500 85mm DX lens with a 3.5. I mean, I'd rather stretch the budget a little and go for the 105 2.8. FX capability and bigger aperture. Fast lenses are awesome!

If the 85mm was FX capable and 2.8 for $500, I would have thought about it.

I'd like to see some samples shot at ISO 100K.

Not to jazzed about the Macro lens, but probably because I just bought the 105 macro. I'd have left VR off as well. VR doesn't work for macro, and there are plenty of other options for portrait work. DX should be all about minimizing cost.

I just wonder how amazing the 85 could be. I have the 105/2.8 with VR and never use the VR for macro. Further, the 3.5 seems slow in terms of depth of field. While I might shoot at f8-f11, the extremely shallow depth of field of a fast lens allows for more precise focusing at close distances. I also have the 60/2.8 and 200/4 and see no reason for the 85. Even as a portrait lens at 127.5 on DX with only 3.5, I just don't see it.

I hope I'm wrong, I like having more toys to use and covet.

I'm not sure I see the point of a slow, dx macro lens unless it's to attract customers who wouldn't normally look at macro lenses. For that, I would say this lens would have to be less than $400. As it stands, is there a good reason to get this over a 60mm macro, or Tamron's 90mm macro? I'm not trying to be down on Nikon (seems to be the theme of today), I really like the idea of this lens existing, I'm just confused as to what market they are going for with it. Even if the VR justifies the cost (which I can't really say either way to), it seems this lens would be better positioned as cheaper and without VR.

Welp, preorder price is $530 on the Macro lens, which isn't too bad considering the price of Nikon's other macro lenses, but definitely won't attract people who aren't already looking at macro lenses.
