Lol,ahh the beauty of marketing.

But you got all the lenses you were to buy anyway so good for you.

If it was me I would most likely get rid of 24-70 and 16-35mm. You can easily sell them for close to what you got them for. I would rather get 14-24 and throw in a perhaps a 50 prime. but that's me.

Hope you enjoy your purchase.

Yes you could say that but it had everything I wanted plus one that I can sell. Maybe I like the 16-35 better than my 17-35 and ebay that one not sure (I doubt this but the 16-35 supposedly is a sharper lens if you believe everything you read). I have noticed that you can sell lenses in good condition for almost what you payed for them, its the camera body that drops like a rock. I have caught myself wanting a mid-zoom lens for awhile, this is the best one Nikon makes plus takes all the 77mm filters I have collected over the years. About the only other lens I am wanting is a 16mm fisheye, this I probably wouldn't use much but would make some unique shots.

I used this one
http://www.adorama.com/Als/ProductPage/INKD700127F.html

I am not sure if I can post a price for the kit (kinda new here) after you add it to the cart lets just say it was not over $7075.00

You need to add it to the cart to see the end price but then price everything out and the cost of the camera comes out to around $1350.00.

16-35mm cost $1225
24-70mm cost $1730
70-200mm cost $2300
SB-900 cost $460
totals $5715
$7075-$5715=$1360

My problem is that I have a 17-35mm 2.8. I might not keep the 16-35mm but figure I might use it on my D200 while I use the 17-35 on my D700. I might ebay it if I think I won't use it but have time to make up my mind (I figure that it might get $1100 if I don't open it and leave the warranty card blank). I also have a 80-200mm 2.8 ED but always wanted the VR version of the lens and with the new one out just made it an easy swap. I will say if you own the equipment already or won't use it well this deal won't quite do you any good. I have an SB-600 but found that I wanted a flash that could control other flashes and not just my camera, plus give me a bit more options in bad lighting. Hope this helped

Well I have been looking at the D700 for a few months now but I just went ahead and got one (so the new version should be released in the next 3 months, that is what happened after I got my D200 anyway; everyone can thank me later).

There has been so much speculation about what the 700 (s/x) or 800 will do I couldn’t take it anymore (just kidding). Honestly until it gets released its just speculation on what we would like it to have and a bit of what has Nikon done in the past. After all the rebates being offered I calculated the price for my new D700 to be just over $1400 (less than I paid for my D200). To me that’s good enough price drop to buy the old version plus get some new glass and equipment at the same time.

I mainly shoot car shows and my D200 is nice but I want more on the wide angle side so for me FX is a big plus. I only have one DX lens and that came with my D200 so I don’t have a lot of DX gear that is just sitting around. I still plan to use my D200 mainly for telephoto shots that the crop factor would be handy. My overall goal is to be able to make my own “art work” and put up pictures around my house. I would love to print off some poster size pieces but unless I get the perfect shot I will almost need a D3X if I want to do that. I just don’t see spending that much on a body to be worth it.

Maybe the newer version of the D700 has 24 MP but then again it might not. I figure no matter what the D700 is a good camera even if it does get a replacement, and if the newer version does what I need my new D700 will have a friend.

Hello PBrigido.

In order to correct yellowish WB, I use Lightroom or ViewNX (assuming you use RAW), because my D300 (sorry no D700 yet) isn't able to go down below 2500K but the softs can. In ViewNX, I first choose incandescent preset and then I can decrease the K value.
Hope that helps...

Yes mb I agree something has got to be up the D700 price is dropping like a stone after staying at $3000 grand where I live for over a year its dropped all the way down to $1800 (used though) in the last 3 weeks! New is $2200. I could be wrong, maybe the D3s has killed D700 sales? New D300s likewise? The D700 is a fantastic camera though. I love the features like closing the eyepiece so stray light can't get in, good low light, Info button, individual settings for shooting landscapes, portraits, grid lines, 2 live view modes, ability to still shoot DX for non-serious shots, and most importantly obviously FX in smaller package.

PBrigido said:
Don't make fun, I do own only ONE Sigma lens.

And that ONE is?
As for D700 right now I would wait, not something I recommend often but something will happen soon enough (I think Niko is wrong this time) and either you will be able to get better camera for the same price or you will be able to get this great D700 for the better price. Or you can try and get a good Christmas deal. Anyway D700 is a great camera.
As for lenses it is always a hard thing to recommend because it really depends on a photographer, my first choice would be 14-24 but I am mostly landscape fan so it is an obvious choice. On the other hand new 70-200 VRII looks promising, I did not tried it personally but old one was the best Nikon mid tele lens choice and new one is supposed to be even better and if you are portrait or close up animal shooter this one plus TC-17 would be a preferable choice.
If you want one lens that does most of the things and you are tight on the budget old and neglected 24-120 VR one is very good on 12Mpix D700. Same is true for a slightly longer 70-300 VR, it looks much better on FX than on DX.
What I would recommend for the first FX lens is a zoom; current zooms are as good or better as the primes and are much more versatile, later you could always add a prime of your favorite length if you find you need larger aperture or something like that.

If you make the jump to FX I think one thing you will notice right away with the telephoto 70-200mm is that you will miss the crop factor you previously took for granted on a DX body. You will often find yourself wishing for more than 200mm (which was 300mm on a dx body)and might need a teleconverter. I myself have been using DX for so long I find it hard to make the adjustment back to the film days where 70mm suddenly becomes a true 70 not 105mm.

I also agree with NikoDoby in that its better to get the telephoto if you already hae the 12-24 DX glass. Although the 14-24 is very very sharp.

According to a very reliable source, this year there will be no Nikon D700s or Nikon D700x.
What Nikon plans to do is to launch totally new D800 to replace the existing D700.
There are several features available in Nikon D800:

1) Video mode 1080p video recording (full HD)
2) High resolution 24.5 MP.
3) High frame rate: 7 fps without battery grip (similar to D300s)
4) 51-area Nikon Multi-CAM 3500FX (same technology as D3X)

Basically Nikon D800 will compete head to head against Canon's EOS 5D MkII.
Most likely Nikon will launch the brand new D800 before Christmas end of this year.
.

I don't think 24.5 MP will be realistic for the D800. I no longer think Nikon’s product development strategy is being dictated by Canon. Nikon is clearly ahead of the game in overall design, build and performance. At its current pace, resolution will out spec lens resolving power within the next five years. Then what? My guess is that Nikon with continue innovations in all other aspects of camera design and IQ that can enhance the effective quality if each MP. When Nikon eventually reaches the 36 MP level it will be far superior to any and all its competition.
My guess for the D800 is 15MP.

I initally was very unhappy with the D3 specification, I was expecting something closer to 20MP, so I oppted out of buying one, I had actually ordered two when my shop started a waiting list, but I cancelled the order. But then when they showed up, the high ISO capabilities of the camers caught my interest.. I was sure my D2x's were better if not lacking considerable in the High ISO, low noise area. I bought a D700 a litle over a year ago, as was hooked instantly on the available light capabilities of the box. I missed the vertical release, and quickly added an MB D10 to put the D700 right for my use and hand size. I popped for another D700 and MB D10 combination, last June. At the time I was seriously looking to get a D3, but the $1800.00 dollar price difference at the time, made me opt for another D700 instead.. And now that the D3s has so quickly shown it prety face, the D700 was a lucky choice for me.. The D3s sounds wonderful, and the prospect of a D800/D700S or X in the near future are also interesting. I have found in the D700 a wonderful camera, that fits my needs perfectly.. And I have all but Zero interest in a DSLR that does Video, I'm a Photographer, not a Videographer???

Thanks to some great feedback, I decided to go ahead and purchase the D700. I got it last night, and all I can say is WOW! Coming from a D200, I never imagined that shooting in low light at such a high ISO could yeild pictures with stunning clairity. Unfortunately I don't have as much time as I used to with a 7 month old baby on hand to play around with it as I would like (not saying baby time is bad...but I have some time to kill when she is sleeping). I knew my WB settings on the D200 very well, and it seems that the D700 is going to take some time to adjust to.

Does anyone have any WB advice with shooting the D700? I can't seem to significanly reduce the yellow in low light shots like I used to. I'm sure I can figure it out with time and experience, but I figured I may shave a few days off coming to you guys first!

Thanks!!

Your 50mm will effectively replace the 35mm on FX. And the 85 will have approximately the same angle of view that you are getting with your 50mm currently.

Where your going to start missing out is on the extreme telephoto and extreme wide angle. If you find yourself shooting on the widest end of your 12-24, then you will love the 14-24, which is actually wider on FX than the 12 on DX. If you'd rather have the telephoto, then I'd go with the 70-200 (get the new one if you have the money).

When I upgrade to FX, I'll probably still do most of my telephoto work on my old DX body. The one exception being low light situations (say shots of a film director explaining his movie after premier in a dimly lit theater). It just depends on what you see yourself doing more of.

Well I guess it would depend on what type of photos you usually take? The 14-24 is a great lens but if I had the 12-24 but didn't already have the 70-200, I'd go for the telephoto instead.

Hello PBrigido and welcome to the forum. It would seem that a D700 upgrade isn't going to happen, so you should be "safe" to buy. As for your lenses I'd go for a new 70-200mm f/2.8

Greeting all! I have myself a two part dilema.

First: Over the past 6 months, I have been contemplating purchasing a D700, but with all of the rumors of the D700s and D700x, I have been putting my decision on the back burner. So, afterall, it would seem that the next gen D700 series are not going to come to fruition, would it be a good time to make an official upgrade? I have owned my current D200 for many years now, shortly after it was introduced. I have been also purchasing some FX lenses with the foresight that my upgrade would be coming soon.

Second: If now is a good time to upgrade, which lenses (if any) would you chose to upgrade to FX quality? Below are my lenses I currently own. Don't make fun, I do own only ONE Sigma lens.
