guys - d800 with N24-70/2.8 looks really small comparing to d3s with N70-200 + TC14, it all depends on perspective :)

I have just recently bought a small travel zoom with a zoom range of 28-392mm (35mm). And IQ is really good for a small pocketable camera. Previously I used to have my old Nikon D70 in the back af my car with a one lens does everything attached. These days I only use my DSLRs for planned shoots - be it model shoots, landscape, urbex or whatever. The Nikon D70 is not my primary DSLR but have long since been replaced by a newer Nikon DSLR and it will in a couple of years be replaced by a newer model.

I ALWAYS have one of my big cameras in the boot (trunk) of my car, with a monopod to save space. Like others here the camera that I actually have ON ME 100% of the time, is the one on my iPhone 4. Like msmoto said, I too would love to try the X100 or Xpro-1, but as they cost the price of a 24 1.4G (the next lens on my wish list) I'm afraid I will just have to wait until the phone call from Fuji comes through, asking me if I would mind taking one of them on long term test! :-)

@msmoto said: "And, I love it Adamz, when you call the D800 with the 24-70 small.....I am still laughing, imagining this is anyone's pocket!" They wear very baggy trousers in adamz part of the world Tommie! :-)

Well, I usually have the D4 with the 24-120mm sitting in the cockpit, on and ready. But, when I do not want a carry around, my old Olympus 1030SW does a fairly nice job. Now, however, TTJ keeps bringing up the Fujifilm X100, which seems to be a great fixed lens "large pocket" camera. Or the X Pro-1, with interchangeable lenses. Of course the cost of the latter is in the D800 range once a couple of lenses are in the bag.

Or the V1 or J1 Nikon? Any thoughts?

And, I love it Adamz, when you call the D800 with the 24-70 small.....I am still laughing, imagining this is anyone's pocket!

Similar to Adamz, its ether the D800 ( 70-120 in my case )or an iphone
I bought a P7100 as a pocket camera but unless it is bright sunshine , and the sun behind me, it does not cut the mustard

I haven't purchased a 'pocket' or 'compact' camera for 5 years now. I'm not going to spend the best part of $500 for a near decent pocket camera when the entry level dSLR bodies are not any more than that now and offer better image quality. Also, the last compact camera I got died over a year ago, and I don't feel the need to buy another because I have cell phones with cameras built into them.

I do feel that most cell phone cameras are no better than the digital camera images of the mid/late 1990's, due to all the usual causes (poor lenses, poor sensors and so on), yet who is not intrigued with or at least want to play about with the Nokia Pureview 41MP device and see if the resulting images are as decent as the samples appear to be, for example?

Cell phones have a two year life span and dSLRs now IMO only about three for non pro levels of use and abuse (I am as guilty as the next of that), even if my old Nikon film camera and lenses are all still going strong.

iPhone when I don't carry my dslr, which I'm having with me on all trips. In the past I was trying to save some weight and space and was taking a smaller (pocket) camera, but never was satisfied with the results, so now I'm hauling the big one and at least I'm happy with the outcome :) - though I must admit that I've recently switched to d800 as a travel companion and together with N24-70/2.8 it is both small (comparing to d3s :)) and very travel manageable camera :)

I was just wondering. For those here that work all day with their cameras, do you take it with you wherever you go, even when you aren't working. Or do you have a second smaller camera that you can slip in your pocket for that "mustn't miss a shot" moment.
