If you are implying that it is VERY profitable for Nikon, then speaking as a consumer, that is even more reason not to buy one. I have no desire to simply add to the bank balances of others just because I can.

If you are implying that it is unprofitable for Nikon, then they should know better and dump it ASAP.

I see in another post, you say they have.

Now for the J2 ... then in a year, they can just go m4/3 and be done with it.

I think the Nikon 1 (J1, V1) just reached its "fair" price with the current discounts. Amazon is moving them because frecuently get out of stock and then they get more.

I'm tempted to buy a V1, but I still wonder if Nikon will release the V2 soon, with some improvements and reasonably priced.

The price difference between J1 and J2 are $100 USD, but the improvements are very few.

I just know here in Singapore dealers can't order the V1 from Nikon anymore. I have the feeling that's it. They released already a whole bunch of new Nikon 1 stuff and a V2 wasn't part of it. I have the feeling for now they will concentrate on the cheaper J2.

Choice just for the sake of it, makes no sense at all. It has to be profitable, with a product infrastructure and worth doing from a market positioning point of view or it's simply something that will wither and die over time.

Looks like m4/3 you can choose a mix of vendors for bodies and lenses, just as you can with SLR ... not so much with Nikon 1 and there are no new 3rd parties at Photokina (or are they all invisible?) and with that alone the range seems to not make much sense to me at all except as a fashion statement... Now, biased as this may sound, but outside of Asian school girls in bright pink "Hello Kitty" outfits, has the "1" line of cameras made substantial inroads into any other particular marketplace?

The message I get from the coverage of Photokina this time is that unless you are m4/3 or SLR, you are dead.

You know, a good Nikon m4/3 body and set of lenses would whip the backsides of much of what is out there already. Unfortunately, the likes of Zeiss are entering the marketplace now, so Nikon seem to have missed that particular 'quality' segment of the m4/3 market, unless they do something pretty darn fast...

Perhaps I may be wrong, but I also wonder just how many "1" units are sold each month in the USA and the EU? I just don't see them on the streets at all and I live in a tourist town too... The Nikon 1 range does not feature AT ALL in the amazon top 100 listings for all cameras and the highest entry only appears in the lower 50 if you filter it down to be just the "Digital SLRs" (but they are not a reflex camera - oh well) category.

Not so good for the Nikon 1 ...

No, it's doesn't make sense to have another alternative with the same sensor dimensions. If you want m43 simply buy a Panasonic or Olympus. It's better companies try to offer different choices.

The V1 has an interesting price cut! Maybe there is a V2 in the horizon for Christmas time.

I'm looking for a camera to replace a stolen P7000. P7700 doesn´t look great to me, considering the V1 at discounted price.

The V series needs better lenses. The current selection is a bit appalling compared to Samsung NX, which has a very nice selection of optically very good to excellent lenses and a 80-400mm OS is on the way as well..

I had a chance to mess about with an NX200 last week and was actually impressed considering it's only $600 or so from the likes of B&H and Adorama.

If Nikon could get the IQ of the D7000 into the same kind of body/lens combo and not feel satisfied with the IQ of a D3100 ... Oh well.

Yeah, I would love a Sony NEX if they have a 16mm 2.8 (they already had it), 28mm 2.0, 50mm 2.8, 85mm 4.0 and 150mm 5.6 pancakes. At these focal length and apertures, pancake-fy them shouldn't be hard. That way, I'd be getting DSLR quality at the size of a point-and-shoot camera. It will be pocketable too. I can put my lenses with their pouches on one pocket and the camera with the normal lens on the other pocket. Why not?

As in September 2013? That would be Next September. Maybe but that just sounds like someone is guessing. Not much more than what we do most of the time. It's a new system so it is hard to say how often Nikon will be updateing it. Oly, Panasonic and Sony seem to kick one out every year, but those are not full overhauls either. 2-years seems to be the big overhaul time period for them. Who knows what Nikon will do. One thing is for sure, Oly is kicking some serious butt with the OM-D5 they just came out with. It looks to be be one hell of a camera all the way around.

@ Gabbb: I mean the auto-review that cannot be cancelled, the time it takes to wake up, the mode selector wheel which is too easy to turn, etc… But otherwise this little camera is a gem if I judge by the dozens of wonderful photos that can be found on forums.

Recently I have read in various places (Mainly forums) that a V2 would be on the market next September. I don't know if people base their statements on facts or if it's just wishful thinking, but I surely wouldn't mind a V2 which would correct all the V1 shortfalls ! :)

I delayed my purchased of the V1 so far because I know its problems would get on my nerves a lot. But now, with the hope of its successor in just 4 months, I could easily wait and get the V2 (Or whatever they want to call it).

I wrote to the Nikon Support in France and they said they just don't know because Nikon don't tell them… They will put any news about this equipment on the Nikon web site when it becomes available to them…

Has any of you guys heard about this "V2" in September ?
