Thanks everyone. I think I'll just hold out until September to see if it's released here in the States. If not, then maybe i'll pick up a used original.

@iris chrome...looks like the original introduced in 2008 is going from about $630-750 online at present.

As far as the price goes, I don't think it would go for as much as $1150 though... at least not in the States. While the lens does have a retail price of ¥90,000 which IS roughly $1140, remember that this is Japanese MSRP and US street prices will most likely be much lower... plus the original AT-X 116 had the same MSRP.

(I was trying to include a link to the Japanese Tokina site showing the orignal's MSRP but the forum is not allowing me to post with the link... <sigh> I never could figure out why this forum has so many issues with links)

+1 - it's not like the original had any problems, it's a great lens.
