Look for 100% positive feedbacks when buying on ebay and if you do find one and do buy from them, after installing your adobe product, make sure to register so you know all's well. Registration solves all of your problems of doubt.

I've bought plenty of software from eBay and never had a problem. I always buy from a highly regarded and long established seller, who has plenty of sales of the item you're buying in their feedback history. I would have thought that this was standard practice by everyone buying on the site?

HI, buying from ebay resellers is quite alright provided you know how and do your research. ebay has a policy for adobe resellers. google and you shall find it. Educational packages are sold to customers where some of them don't ask for an educational id thereby making it easier to sell and easier to buy for some. That's the key to the low prices you see on ebay for legit resellers.

If you find a reseller you like on ebay, post it here and i guess you could take a few second opinions from people here.

Damn it. I wanted one of those. Anyway wouldn't buy one from ebay, might have ended up with a pirate instead!

Hi everyone,

I have sold _beaucoup_ legal and cheap boxes of software from Ebay over the years. I didn't respond to the CS6 question because I don't think CS6 will be available in that venue.

Some stores choose to front their wares in Ebay.

Just saying.

My best,

I agree spraynpray and CS is a huge ripoff without upgrading it can cost upwards of close to $1000. And TaoTeJared you are also right ebay cannot control what is sold on its site. I remember the FBI had to get involved with Ebay in the late 90s after an actual Chinese laborer was bought and sold to someone in San Francisco! True story. Sorry getting out into right field now...

Ebay does not control/choose what is sold. It is an open marketplace like a classified add in a news paper. You could buy bad software from a classified add and you don't blame the newspaper. It's not ebay's fault. You may report it thought.

At least with e-bay, with many items they can get your money back as long as you use paypal.

That said - I still wouldn't buy software on ebay.

Hi, do not buy software from ebay. I did and got hosed.

Point is stay away from auction sites for software! :)

I really don't understand how eBay continues to allow the sale of dodgy software from their site, but it happens. I bought HDR EFEX Pro, went for support when LR4 came out and was told it was not legal. It mysteriously stopped working very soon after that (I suspect it was switched off by NIK). They said they do not sell through eBay at all.

CS is a rip-off though hopefully the LR4 policy of a fair price reduces piracy.

Hi, do not buy software from ebay. I did and got hosed. It was a $100.00 copy of CS4 but it was a burned disk of a trial version! The serial number didn't even work. Luckily I had a friend work some magic for me and I got CS5 for free a few months later. Its great and I won't be switching to CS6 anytime soon. I also have RAW 6.7 so its enough for my RAW D800e shots. My Lightroom is a problem though I own version 3.6 which isn't enough for my camera anymore. I need 4.0..Point is stay away from auction sites for software! :)

I would never buy software from Ebay...
btw on Educational licensing and upgrades -
http://www.adobe.com/products/creativesuite/mastercollection/faq.html#upgrade-eligibility

Under Purchasing Policies,

em
Can I upgrade from a validly licensed education version of a CS3, CS4, or CS5.x product to a noneducation version of a CS6 product?

Yes, you may purchase upgrades for education versions provided you meet the upgrade eligibility requirements. For requirements, pricing, or to place your single-user license order, visit the Adobe.com Store in your region.
em

btw IMHO upgrade eligibility requirements refer to the existing version that you own - not whether it's a retail or education version.

the student photoshop CS6 is supposed to just be for students who are currently studying.

Actually it is for anyone enrolled for any class, teachers and those working for education systems/organizations. It is usually 50%, if not more. Only drawback is that you can not upgrade it. Only the Full retail version allows for upgrades.

I have never seen software drop in price in it's first year and sometimes not until the new version is out. Ebay is tricky and you can get scammed really quick but it can work as well but rarely for any less than a good deal on Amazon. Generally speaking, you do not see prices drop on new software on there either. Previous versions yes but not the current one's.

Hi Gareth,

I don't understand the comment. JourneyEd is offering CS5.5 (and I think some others, too, at price, and will upgrade for free when CS6 is released.

World Wide, when enrolled in a 'sanctioned' CS Adobe class, you are entitled to a student discount for the software. In some cases, that class can be a community college or state sponsored course that doesn't cost so much that could spell a terrific discount for the user. You might not be able to take advantage of that, but still, something like that might be available for some.

Upgrading options, too, are something to look at. I don't know what versions are 'upgrading'.

My best,

Mike

Hi,

There as several different discounts available to buyers. You can enroll in a local class that teaches Photoshop and get the student discount, for example. In some cases, that _can be_ less, after the cost of the class and software, less than the software itself.

Software normally goes down in price, too.

Here in the US, one can buy CS5.5 and get CS6 upgrade when available.

Good luck, and my best,

Mike

I am looking at getting CS6 and LR4. If I get them from adobe they are about NZ$1000 from the US website. If I buy from the AU website like I am supposed to, just CS6 is NZ$1350.

In the interest of saving money I am wondering if CS6 will be cheaper on ebay in a few months. CS5 is currently on there for US$450 and I have seen it as low as $399. CS6 is $699 from adobe. CS5 was $599 when I saw it on ebay for $399.

Any thoughts on price drops and buying Photoshop from ebay?
