I agree with MSmoto - get your money back, and get it back fast. That is a very bad sign if a company is taking your money up front. That means they have credit issues. 10-15% I can see as a deposit, but all - no way.

Lenses are out there - just hard to find. (Shameless plug for my own thread ;) Try looking at this for different dealers.

Never pay in full for something you don't have. Some shops I've dealt with made me pay a $100 deposit for anything over $1000, but nothing more than that.

I saw a 14-24 in inventory at a local shop in LA. They also have some 50 mm f/1.4s and a few other rare items, such as D7000s, all new within the last few days.

I also wanted a 105 Macro, which I bought from stock after a short search last month.

Also, the 28-300 is the kit lens for the D800 outside of the U.S., so there will be limited quantities for a while as Nikon fills all those Asian D800 orders. I'm told that the kit is selling very well in Asia as people are making the D800 their first full frame format Nikon.

My point is that things are out there, so I don't know if it is wise to give someone money in advance for something that isn't in stock.

After a recent trip to B & H in NYC before the Passover Holliday,..I purchased a few lenses while there. I knew that there was a shortage of inventory out there, but not to the level that I purchased the only 14-24mm in inventory and the next to last 16 mm fisheye in inventory.

Maybe Apple news to start manufacturing Nikons products? Millions of iPads available but no 105mm's? Just kidding Nikon.

Ebvette said:
I have paid for and still on order for two months a 105mm Macro, with still no progress.

Anybody else notice this, or am I sensitive while waiting for my own lens to arrive?

First, I am wondering why you have paid for a lens you do not have. I did this for years, was told NIKON would not ship the lenses, and other equipment, finally discovered the dealer was using my money to float his own debt with NIKON. NIKON would not ship the lens because the dealer did not have adequate credit with NIKON. These dealers will never admit to this, but I found this out through an insider at NIIKON. So, if you have money down, suggest to the dealer they deliver the lens or return your money with in 15 days. When I did this, I mysteriously got the 135mm f/2.0 I had paid for about three months earlier.

Second, yes, you are just like all the rest of us.....overly sensitive and paranoid about the process of getting NIKON equipment. But, this is normal for NIKONians. Ha, ha, ha.

Several factors, including the Sunami in Japan, floods in Thailand, and the increase in demand for the NIKON products over Canon the chief competitor, are no doubt responsible for the wait. Think gratitude for being able to purchase the quality of equipment we can. This stuff is absolutely outstanding..... and the 105mm Macro.... if I get mine, I will let everyone know!

How many people are switching over to Nikon because of the D800, D800e, and the D4? These people need Nikon glass for their Nikon cameras and a shortage of cameras becomes a huge shortage of lenses. I am new to Nikon and I have bought new Nikon glass, even though my D800 has yet to arrive. Yes, it's a frustrating experience, but judging by the reviews for the D800, and the reviews and problems with the Canon MKIII, this will be worth the wait.

"Situation Normal - All Fuxked Up" (you can guess what Fuxked really is, can't you?)

Remember, as new FX bodies ship (D4 and D800/E), so new lenses are in demand too. Now the D3200 is announced and lord knows what else is due soon for DX, when the FX glass comes into stock, so the DX stuff will be in short supply.

You would think by now Nikon would be making some headway with restocking the popular lenses that seem to be out of stock for the past six months. I have paid for and still on order for two months a 105mm Macro, with still no progress. As I go through several Nikon Dealer websites and even NIKONS Product Website, I see OUT OF STOCK on almost all of the most popular FX lenses. Seems anything from $1500 or below is sold out.

Seems especially the 28-300MM telephoto is one that is really popular and many folks are waiting for it with NO LUCK...

Anybody else notice this, or am I sensitive while waiting for my own lens to arrive?
