Check and see if Custom setting "Exposure Delay Mode" is turned on. It provides about a second delay, so a tripod can settle down before the exposure. Very handy for tripod shooting, but maddening for normal shooting.

You might be in 14 bit RAW mode. There is a very noticable delay in shutter delay vs 12 bit mode. Also, you can configure the continuous focus so that it has a focus lock priority or a shoot priority. Good luck with you issue.

No problem here. A couple days ago I shot over 100 at a bowling tournament with existing light and never had the slightest issue. It's actually amazingly quick! The only issue I've had is with my 70-300 not focusing outside at night.. but hey, I guess if I couldn't see then it couldn't either.

I used my virgin D300S on a shoot over the weekend and noticed a profound delay for shutter release. It happened 100 per cent of the time in lower light. Even when the focus point was on a strong area of contrast, I had to hold the shutter release down and wait for release. I switched back to my D300 and D2X and no problem.
Has anyone else experienced this. I can't work with it so will send it back to B and H and hope it was a lemon.
