The 28 f1.8 might be neat, but doesn't find any use in my kit. I rarely shoot at that focal length...although I know it is fx and probably makes a little more sense there. Wonder why it wasn't a 24 f1.8 though?

20mm f/1.8G.... Re: Super telephotos..... too much $$$ is my guess.... unless a 600mm f/5.6G???? Let's see, 1.4 x 600 = 840mm. Oh, not much different than 400 x 2 = 800. Oh well....

I would like the 20mm though... the f/2.8 needs updating.

It sounds like a neat camera, but for anyone that already owns a dslr there isn't much appeal to the d3200.

I like the f1.8 lenses, but I was really hoping we would see an update of some of the much needed older versions of lenses. We haven't seen an updated zoom in a long time now and so many old lenses could use af-s and vr. They must hate telephoto/super telephoto focal lengths :-( the 18-200 focal length is saturated with zooms and primes.

Were you in Texas today? TMS is where it's at for NASCAR right now...

Nope, I was at Rockingham Motor Speedway where the NASCAR trucks have returned after about 8 years. This is the first time NASCAR has returned to a track they abandoned but it appears more of this will happen as the economy takes its toll on car racing.

The problem is that they will not allow any dimension of a case over 14 inches (35.6 cm) and this means the 400 f/2.8 can not get in...body and lens are much larger than that.

I will not be in Texas until fall. Then in Houston, the Woodlands, and possibly San Antonio.

Meanwhile, i am headed for Atlanta and will come back with some photos... I hope. And as far as the announcement.....where is the D400?

A new DX plant should be opening it's doors if it hasn't already done so in China. Construction started on that almost a year ago. When the floods hit Thailand I saw Nikon press releases that it was going to open in the 2nd quarter this year.

The pre-order system is a creation of the vendors, not Nikon. One of the problems with pre-orders is that customers will place multiple orders with no intention of actually purchasing anything other than the first one to deliver which makes it very difficult for Nikon to know what the actual demand is and their production capacity is limited in any event.

Not a chance in hell on "B". 1. s,x,h,etc are upgrades - The D4 just started shipping. These are at least 2 years off. 2. The D800 replaced the "X" series & the D700.

I am just hoping a D400 comes with the 3200. This just sucks sitting in limbo and I don't have much more time before I need to commit to something for this year. I wanted to throw it on last years taxes.

The price of high performance video cameras seems to be trending down, not up. Canon got a shock when some cameras were announced shortly after theirs which severely undercut them on price. There is another new one revealed at NAB which also undercuts Canon's price, and uses Canon lenses as well.

I think there is a rather significant number of people on this thread who get obsessed about cameras.... geez, I was at an event as a spectator today and NASCAR would not allow me to bring my camera in.... Too Large! ....but they had all these folks running around with these NPS neck straps... and they had a D700 on one shoulder and what was a D3or4 on the other.

See how obsessed we can get.... But, I am with Tao on the D whatever argument. If anyone notices, Tao has the data which supports the time frame of NIKON releases....so...

I still like the D3200/D400 following soon thereafter

Given that the same thing happened after the announcements of the D200, D300, D3, D700, D90, D7000... etc etc. why is anyone surprised by the lack of D800 availability? Everyone knows that Nikon is a much smaller company than Canon, they simply lack the ability to meet the demand of pre-orders (which Nikon, technically never authorized). They have supply problems under normal shipment seasons, so the fact that they are well behind on D4 and D800 bodies is not unusual.

@PBPM:

no, all people really want is to not get line-jumped by NPS members and for Nikon to act a little bit more responsibly in allocating production resources. It's pretty poor on Nikon's part to announce a launch date if they can't possibly meet up with demand on that date.

I'm not suggesting Nikon delay launch, but would it have killed them to soft-launch it, rather than get people's hopes up by naming a date in March, and thereby implying a majority of orders could be met that day? I doubt it.

Rant:

This isn't a supply chain or PR problem, its the, "Its new! Its bigger! Its better! We must have it now!" mentality that people have now days. What people really seem to want is for Nikon to build an extra plant or two just so they can build more FX cameras for launch periods. Thom Hogan talked about this very issue, and commented that Nikon would be silly to build an extra plant or two just for the strong demand when new products are released. Why, because during the 2-3 years between new models those factories would sit unused. That doesn't look good on the finical books, nor sit well with stockholders. At the end of the day it would actually hurt customers more than help them, since Nikon would be putting money into maintaining unused buildings rather than R&D.

In other words, people need to get over themselves and be a little more patient.

Rant over.

I think those with D800 issues (as per other threads) would agree about the need for a firmware update, but that would just be an added extra as the D3200 is supposed to be the headline item for the 19th (according to our admin that is)...

I also think we could all agree with the need to fire a number of supply chain and PR people...
