I realize it isn't on the same level of bodies, but the D5100 compared to the D5000 feels the same way to me. Feels wise it seemed cheaper and a little funky. I doubt the D4 is any less durable though...if you have shot the D3s for a long time then it might just take some getting used to as it is different.

Hey guys, I haven't had anytime to do test yet as I had to go out to dinner. I did take the D4, the 24g and 85g… it was insanely dark, so I was using up to 12,800 iso. I don't want to disappoint anyone yet, especially without any testing, but what I can say is I am severly dissapointed with nikon for skimping on the things that may not matter to the end result, but the camera 'feels' cheap. The shutter sound compared to the D3s is awful, very similar to the d7000/d700 sound… not a succinct clack. Some people might like the new sound, but me, I prefer the D3s anyday.. it feels solid compared to the D4. When I got home, I compared both bodies, and the D3s wins hands down. I'm not a fan of the smooth out look… I'm not sure what Nikon has done with the exterior, but it certainly feels alot more plasticky.

as far as image quality and video's go. The video is awesome, straight out of the box with no editing through Premiere, it is beautiful, no banding at all.

Live view is implemented nicely (for stills - so not really a usage for me) but for people who do use it, it is great. images are on par with D3s, nothing extra special to note or noticable, and I do pixel peep. But considering the extra resolution. If it matched the D3s, I would be impressed… amazing, that although I love the D3s, you don't appreciate it as much as you should until you shoot with something else, like Mark II, 1D IV e.t.c. The D3s is a gorgeous machine and the quality of the construction and feel in the hand beats any camera (besides the leica m9-p)

That is it for my initial thoughts..

Remember that promise you gave me about when it was time to replace the D3s you would sent it to me FedEx overnight? I'll email you my address, have FedEx bill me for the shipping, thanks. ;-) Hey enjoy that awesome D4, seen lots of reviews, Like they way it has everything a photographer would need. Cheers.

I'm surprised that it would feel a lot lighter, the specs say only it's only 50g or so lighter, but I guess it goes a long way. I'd much rather have a camera that feels a lot lighter, but really isn't than the other way around though.

I (and I'm sure everyone else) will of course be very interested in any comparison shots you could post, if you're willing to do that.

Hi guys,

first post here. Just received the D4 this morning (I didn't bring a lens with me to work today)... initial impressions is that it is alot lighter than the D3s, feels more 'plasticky' and is a little bulkier in the hands...

Can't wait to get home and slap some primes on this and shoot some video. I don't expect still pictures to be much different from the D3s, but it is the video that I got this for. Apparently the D800 is coming next week too. I will post up some thoughts on the performance differences against the D3s (as well as my Leica M9-P) when I get to run some tests...

cheers,

Van.
