Fellas, thanks so much for your support and for this very useful information. I'll be filing a claim in the morning. It's great to know that Andy Cuomo isn't taking this crap lightly. it looks like I may get this resolved after all. Keep you posted and I'll be sure to stick with the established retail shops from now on. Thanks again.

Note: Adorama lists the D700 at $2700, but when you add it to your cart, its only $2450. Not quite $2170, but not to bad. Its the same price at Amazon as well. I expect that we might see some cool rebates come Christmas.

Adorama also have a used one in "Excellent" (works perfectly, but with some signs of wear)condition for $2100.

I am very sorry to hear your story Professor_3, I live in NJ and am all too familiar with the Brooklyn Crooks. Personally I am not all that thrilled with B&H either. Yes, they honor their excellent prices, and ship what you order, but their after sale support needs some serious help. IMHO, I purchase from Calumet, and just mention the price B&H has on their website. They will match or beat B&H's price, and if you have a problem, they are far more helpful.

Ouch !!! Hopefully things will workout for the better Professor_3. Never EVER fall for those cheap price ads no matter how tempting!!! The New York Attorney General's office recently settled with a bunch of those Brooklyn stores for fraud.

Best Price Camera, Foto Connection, 1 Way Photo, 86th Street Photo, and Broadway Photo are some of the guilty names but they operate under 40 other names!!!

This is a link to the news story
http://news.cnet.com/8301-17938_105-10274730-1.html

Here's a gallery and background info on a lot of the Brooklyn area camera stores. THIS LIST IS NOT PART OF THE FRAUD STORY. It's just to illustrate what the camera store fronts in Brooklyn look like.
http://donwiss.com/pictures/BrooklynStores/

Good luck Professor_3 and keep us posted!!!

Sorry Professor, most of us use Adorama and B&H. And do persist, time and effort can often get you satisfaction. Also start talking about who is doing what might help. If they remain anonymous, they can continue with their business practices.

Regarding landscapes and a D700, I would also save enough money for the 14-24, considered by many the best wide-zoom ever made. (The 14-24 and the 24 PC lenses are the main reason I'd buy an FX camera).

Hey Guys, I could really use some help. I just got burned by one of those Brooklyn (or should I say Crooklyn)stores. The old bait and switch. I called to order the D90 and they sent me a D5000. AND I'M PISSED! Every time I call them I get the run around and a bunch of slick talk. I filed a claim with my bank and with the New York Department of Consumer Affairs. I ought to change my name to Sucker. But in the mean time does anyone have any ideas for me? Thanks.

Ha ha! I could have taken the stuff home if I wanted to pay for it with money and/or jail time! lol. It was what we call "The Nikon Weekend" where the two main Nikon reps for Ritz camera let employees of Ritz Camera and VIP customers demo all the Nikon equipment to their hearts content over two days (within reason).

I got there early and they insisted we take at least a D3 or D700 and a Coolpix camera, so I did. This year I want to take a D700 for 1 day and a D300s the second day and the 200-400mm telephoto.

d700 + 24-70/2.8 will work for Your landscapes very well - possibly the best configuration, as it's relatively light and IQ is great (IMHO only d3x is a better combination, but once You add the price factor, You have a clear winner)

gentoo - don't You think that Nikon should add d300s for free, once You buy a long telephoto,i.e. 300/2.8 or 200-400/4 :)

Niko is right, if you pick up a D700 and you have the means to buy it with you, you will walk out with it. I went and played with one at bestbuy and have taken pictures with a few while at work for poeple. You doing landscapes, the D700 would be the right camera for you. The D300 series are for us weird and eccentric wildlife shooters. I still want a D700 though.

No problem Brian, wait a few more weeks to see if the price of the D700 falls a bit when the D700 upgrade is announcement. Unless you like buying at BestBuy and you've got their credit card with a zero balance. Then hurry and buy it before they run out. The D700 will serve you well for landscapes.

But if you have a big investment in DX glass then just stay with the D200 and see what Santa can bring you :^)

If landscapes are your thing, then you would prefer the D700 and a lens like 24-70mm Nikkor so you can have corner to corner sharpness. I shoot a lot of landscapes with my D300 with a 24-70mm F2.8 Sigma and at times wish I could go wider (and sharper in the corners at 24mm), so I had to rent the Sigma 12-24 to get that extra width. But with the D700's FX sensor I would not need that extra wide angle.

If you can swing it, get the D700 and the 24-70mm Nikkor. If not D300 (or D300s) with a 17-55mm Nikkor would be pretty dang awesome as well.

If you would like I could post some photo's I had taken with a D3 and the 24-70mm Nikkor last summer during a Nikon preview event, all you need to do is ask. ;)
