Look up Digi-scoping with Nikon scopes. There are some great images that people make with Nikon's sport optics.

Indeed so. It was just nice to see Nikon gear in the range from $100 to $500, all of which seemed to be missing a zero...

If you think that stuff isn't cheap, you clearly haven't looked at microscopes. In lab at school I used to use Nikon microscopes and Leica dissecting scopes. Now I use Olympus microscopes and Bausch and Lomb dissecting scopes. Ugh. :D

We have some Nikon gear at work on the viewing end of a few bits of really odd (as in unusual) kit in the micro engineering labs. Things with liquid nitrogen feeds to cool targets down and such. Never got involved with anything like that myself, but when we do tours and such, it looks very impressive. Guess I need to be a trest subject for a tour of campus one day and actually find out what all that gear really is for!!! LOL.

When I was a student (about... [ahem] too many years ago), an electron microscope took up a few hundred square feet of floor space had a dedicated PSU feed and used more cooling, pipes and such than the average ice house. Now they plug into a wall socket and are the size of an average office desk!

I think Nikon also makes (made?) medium format lenses, as well as lenses for their old rangefinders. Not sure if they still make any of that stuff.

Don't know... maybe they did? Someone will tell us, I'm sure.

the D800 is kind of stepping in 120 films toes now...

I liked the Nikon ones better, the fine and coarse focus rings were buttery smooth. The Olympus ones are okay, but I feel they're a bit rougher.

I was wandering round my local sporting goods store yesterday afternoon (got to do something other than photography or I'd go insane), and found the Nikon sport optics display.

After looking at prices of Nikon cameras and lenses, it was a great pleasure to mess about with some of the other items Nikon make. A good example are the binoculars and for much less than you'd expect for a "Nikon". Rangefinders, scopes (crossbow as well as rifle), telescopes as well as binoculars too. Not priced in the bargain basement but nowhere near as expensive as many others..
