Well in my attempt to go buggy I didn't use a tripod so I had to brace myself, there is a very very fine line between in and out of focus. Needless to say this was about the best I could hold my self still, I really wish the front leg would have been in a different location.

Just a note... in the tests I saw, the new 85mm f/1.8 is sharper than the f/1.4 in all areas, except of course, 1.4. That is why I purchased the 1.8 rather than the 1.4. And the difference in cost os so big. It allows me the rational to purchase the 24mm f/1.4. Except now, with the ISO of the D4, I can shoot f/4.5 lenses, and be very happy.

But do check out the test, on the comparison of the 85's.

I might have this mixed up with another test but thought the 85/1.8G beat out the 85/1.4D but the 85/1.4G was not used in the test I saw at least(not sure why). The test I saw had the 85/1.4D, 85/1.8D and the new 85/1.8G. There might have been other test done but can you post a link to the test you used/found.

I forgot to mention that there were some other Nikon shooters at this dance festival! I tried out the 85mm f/1.4G and 50mm f/1.4G. Both pretty lenses, and the 85mm f/1.4 is now more tempting than ever. I wonder how much it feels different than the 85mm f/1.8G or the other 85mm lenses. Gotta compare things. I think my 'prime holy trinity' doesn't include the 85mm though... definitely the 24mm f/1.4G, definitely a big fast telephoto like the 135mm f/2 or 200mm f/2, and probably a tilt-shift in the middle.
