This is why I use the Really Right Stuff L-plates. They form to the camera body and you never really notice them as you use the camera. I like repositioning from vertical or horizontal without moving the tripod head as well. They are just more practical (at least for me).

Sorry I can't think of a solution to your plate problem but maybe someone else can offer up something?

Your question also brings up that the new 70-200 has a new foot too. I'd like to see how Nikon improved it.

Good luck Armello

Thanks NikoDody! I'll call B&H next time I get some stuff from them. Another question that maybe you and others could help me: I usually carry my D700 with 70-200 mm attached inside a Think Tank Digital Holster 50, with hood in position and lens foot removed. If I have the original Arca plate screwed to the camera body, it makes it difficult to remove the set as the plate (due to its squared and bulky shape) tends to get jammed. So, do you know any plate that is not so bulky as Arca original one, something lke Gitzo plate and at the same time fits Arca Z1dp?

According to the reviews at BHphoto it is compatible Armello.

http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/586141-REG/Kirk_LP_45_LP_45_Replacement_Arca_Type_Quick.html#reviews

Or just email Kirkphoto and ask them. I'm sure they would give you the definitive answer.

Do you mean like this Armello?

http://www.kirkphoto.com/Lens_Plate_for_70-200mm_f2.8_VR_AFS_replacing_Nikon_foot.html

Don't remember if it's compatible with the Arca though. I believe it is.

Não há de que, ted2001!
adamz pointed out something that is not completely clear to me and I would like to go further on that as I am very confused about. Mine Arca double pan Z1 ball head came with one standard plate. It's usually attached to the Nikkor 70-200 mm foot since it's the glass I use more frequently. The starting question would be: is there any plate that might replace 70-200 mm foot and at the same time fit directly into Arca Z1dp ?

As I'm in the process of switching to ArcaSwiss (AS), can someone write me either there are any differences between plates from different manufactures? i.e. will the plate from Wimberlay work on Jobu head and vice-versa?

I use Arca Z1DP head with a Gitzo G1227LVL tripod and both are fantastic. All you need is to pay attention not to put much pressure when using the flip lock (never go beyond the limit), remember to move the metallic pin in the right direction and strong nail/finger to move internal mechanism. For the stability they give to the lens/body, I think it is worthwhile.

I love the Arca Swiss Z1 tripod head and wonder weather anyone has experience with their "Flip-Lock" quick release system.

Do the size, weight and cost of the QR plates and mechanism, pay off in convenience?

The QR mechanism is about $40 and each plate costs $40-$50. For two tripods with two cameras and two long telephotos, that's over $250 for few tiny pieces of metal.
