By the way, my power pack is as follows
- Car battery
- 110V inverter
- EH-6

Not very efficient, nor portable, but lasts for ever.

Lol, that brings new meaning to the term "Drive through shooting"!

dormant, re your power pack - I'd find it hard to get it past security at events, but I like your style ;)

I guess a diesel generator as backup would make some impact too

Hey dormant - I realised what you were getting at after I pushed "post" ;) - sorry was on a do 10 things at once at full speed kind of day ;0
So, yes in theory it should work, still waiting to hear from Quantum...

Cheers

My (badly-made) point was that it looks as if the EP-6 has the same power connector as D3s etc, so existing Quantum cable would work.

Yeah, but the point is that by using the Quantum you are not tied to a wall socket - its a battery pack. EH-6[b]+EP-6 doesn't give you that. On other websites there are discussions about the possibility of third party battery manufacturers supplying high-capacity batteries for the D4 (which of course could not be sold in Japan). The advantage over the Quantum is that they would be internal.

Nikon's own website says that the old EH-6 power supply is compatible with the D4: http://www.nikonusa.com/Nikon-Products/Product-Archive/Power-Adapters/25282/EH-6-AC-Adapter.html#tab-ProductDetail-ProductTabs-CompatibleWith

Maybe that needs the EP-6 as well.

Update
======

There's a photo of the EP-6 on Nikon UK's website: http://www.europe-nikon.com/en_GB/product/accessories/slr/slr-power/ac-adaptors/ac-power-connector-ep-6

I suspect the hidden end of it has the standard Nikon socket for the EH-6 or EH-6b.

I had a convo today with Quantum Instruments about using one of their Turbo batteries to power a D4.

Might be a workaround for the reduced capacity of the new D4 battery (introduced I understand because of new regulations in Japan) compared to the D3/D3s, which some of us have got used to and may still need in some circumstances.

However Quantum are still waiting to get their hands on a D4 so cannot recommend anything yet.

I see that the D4 does not have an external DC-in plug which the D3s/D3/D3x have.
Nikon's own external supply for the D4 consists of a new EP-6 power connector which fits into the battery chamber, and EH-6b AC adapter which plugs into EP-6 one end and the wall supply the other. Hopefully Quantum can work with the EP-6...
