Are you able to transfer data via the USB cable to get pictures off of the memory card? I am just wondering if pictures are even being stored on the memory cards or not...sounds like they aren't. It might be a PC issue also...I would start with the USB cable to transfer. If that works then it might be the SD card reader or whatever you are using.

It seems like something is still wrong...obviously it is useless if you can't get anything off of the cards.

Hey Stephmeister,

What caused it to happen? It seems like the problem isn't cured, only gone away for the moment. Is it still in warranty?

@spraynpray
The other problems are gone now I've properly reset the camera so there is no need to ship it to Nikon.

I wouldn't sweat on the memory issue as the other problems you have mean that you have got to send it to the service department anyway :^?

@PB PM:
Yes there is......http://nikonrumors.com/2011/02/18/distortion-control-data-upgrade-for-d90-and-d5000-releasaed.aspx/

@Anaxagoras:
I've formatted both SD cards in the D90 and in a Casio point and shoot, both SD cards work perfectly in both camera's. When i put them in my/my girlfriends computer they aren't recognized.

Worth a try, if you haven't already -

Reformat the SD card in your (or better, someone else's) PC, then reformat it in the camera.

Sounds completely stupid, I agree. But it did cure a similar problem I had with the SD card in my satnav last year.

@ Abhinav, i know but if the drain goes away for a few months i'm happy. The D90 is my spare camera and my "film" camera, I use the D700 as main camera.

Made some progression on the (temporary) solution for battery drain and flashing SD light of the Nikon D90 BGLOD ;

I've rid of the slight battery drain...follow the following steps;
-Remove SD card
-Remove battery and charge to 100%
-Cool battery for 5 to 10 minutes
-Hold the on/off switch to the extreme right position (the light bulb position) for 10 seconds.
-Turn off the camera
-Turn it back on
-Reset the camera by pressing +/- and AF button simultaneous
-Format SD card by pressing thrash can and AF mode buttons simultaneous

Things i'am still looking into;
-The camera reads and formats the SD card just fine, when i put the SD card in my PC it doesn't recognize the SD card
-Can't install new firmware due to SD card issue

@Stephmeiste :Its a temporary solution .sooner or later it will come back again ,and drain the battery without you knowing about it .So,If you don't want to get it repaired then never leave the battery inside d90 after shooting session.

Thanks for the reactions!!!

I've resolved the problem....at least the major issue's.

I've found the solution on flickr;

This got rid of massive battery drain and SD card flashing whist the camera is off.

Remaining issue's;
-The camera reads and formats the SD card just fine, when i put the SD card in my PC it doesn't recognize the SD card.
-Can't install new firmware due to SD card issue.

I've been trying 2 SD cards, one from Sandisk (2GB) and one from Trancend (4GB).

P.S.:
Probs go to flikr user Rob.i.am!!! Got the info from this thread.....http://www.flickr.com/groups/nikond90club/discuss/72157611261072391/

Is it by any chance an SDXC card? Most computers cant read em either. Also if it is not a sandisk, or Lexar it could be bad as many card companies churn out cards that ultimately go bad (hit or miss)

Hey Folks,

I'm having a problem with my D90.

Issue's:
-Holding down the 2 "green" buttons does not trigger reset.
-The camera reads and formats the SD card just fine, when i put the SD card in my PC it doesn't recognize the SD card.
-When i turn the camera off the green SD light starts flashing.
-Can't install new firmware due to SD card issue.

I've tried:
-Cleaning contacts of both SD cards
-Cleaning contacts of D90 internal SD card reader
-Cleaning contacts of lens communication
-Tried several lenses
-Tried several batteries
-A ton of google'ing

I have considered:
-Throwing the camera against the wall

Does any body have some suggestions???
