@adamz: I saw few samples om net .Photography people with it seems fine ,but my purpose will be to use that lens for astrophotos .For that vignetting is not acceptable .

Somewhat like the time when I purchased the 105mm Macro, at that time it was $889, now it's hovering around $950.

@abhi - forget 35/2.0 and get 35/1.8 instead, got it two weeks ago for my FX and I'm more than happy with it. sure it works best wide open but certainly it delivers.

Studio, it looks like the price went back up around March 2011. Someone here on the forum pointed me to the camelizer, which tracks amazon price histories and will plot them for you. I have it installed as an add-on to chrome. Here's a screenshot:

I already have 50mm AF-D, which I seldom used on my d90 because of effective focal length.I'm sure now it will be one of my most used lens.

Abhinav if you don't want to fix all your shots post processing when using the 35mm 1.8 DX how about simply picking up a cheap $100 50mm 1.8 D? Its excellent and very useful! The 28-80 and G 28-200mm G are also great. They are light, super cheap (under $100!) zoom lenses that work excellent on the D700 as well. This should hold you over until you save enough funds to get some serious glass ^_~

The 35mm 1.8 DX will work on the D700 or any full body FX. The only issue is the vignetting you will see on all four corners. Cool effect on most shots, but it can be corrected in post.

WT..really for Euros 699 here or at most places you can easily buy new nikon 80-200mm F2.8.

In a reputable B&M establishment in Portugal, renown for their quality AND modest pricing, a D700 is running 2350 EUROS, and a D3X costs 6825! Elsewhere I've seen 18-200 lens go for 999 EUROS, 70-300VR go for 699 EUROS, and all sorts of ridiculous and inflated pricing.

@Nikoner:Well,Price in US were adjusted after Tsunami ,but here in India they didn't .For the same reason Few Nikon products got cheaper in comparison to US right now .I'm sure D800 will cost a lot more here than in US due to Strong dollar against rupees.Smae is going to happen with new batch of D700 which they are expecting in February end .

Infact ,A friend of mine is helping me with CF cards from bhphoto. They are hell expensive here .32GB extreme 60mb here costs around $170 whereas it costs $74 in US :O

Yes its a fantastic camera and you are going to love it! The 35mm is a lot of fun to use and works pretty well, but I preferred the much harder to find 35mm Ais lens because its sharper and I find it better for landscapes and people. Merry Christmas! Happy shooting :)

Secondly, since when did D700 bodies soar to $2,700 in the US? Wasn't it only a few months ago that they sold for their "normal" price of about $2,200? Even the Nikon Store had occasional supplies of D700 bodies selling for only $2,150. A month after the tsunami, I was able to grab a D3s refurb for only $4,250, then after that, D3s bodies soared due to lack of supply. Now, although supply is still short, the normal D3s selling price is back to its pre-earthquake price of $5,199 (B+H). When did the D700 US price start to go nuts? As luck would have it, I'm in the market for a D700 as a second body now.

Yep, in Canada you can get a D700 body for $2500. Strange since the situation is usually the reverse.

As far as lenses go, both the 35/2 and 16/2.8 are a bit old, but they were always pretty good lenses to begin with, so you should be happy with either. It's unlikely we will see a fisheye update anytime soon, so if you want it, just get it. The 35/2 competes with the new 35/1.4 which seems optically better (I haven't used either one myself) and is 1 stop faster, but is substantially more expensive. Whether or not it's worth it is up to you.

To the OP. If you can afford it, get the 35 1.4G. This is by far my most used lens on my D700.

Yesterday ,I gifted myself with a nikon d700.I payed around $2100 for new one .It took me around a week to find one piece as nikon India doesn't have them in stock now .

Now ,I want to know how is 35mm F2 and 16mm fisheye ? .
I wish nikon upgrades both these lenses .
