Oh yea, shivaswrath, the 35 1.8 = 50 1.4 line was mostly directed at jbl, not you.

I do think the 28 1.4 is very unlikely, which is why I parenthetically said "if they ever rerelease it". ;)

I'm still betting the 85 and 28 get updated before the 35. Maybe that is just because I love my 35 f2 and hate to think of it as getting old. ;)

I agree soap, the 35 1.8 DX and 50 1.4 G serve the same role, I was more focused on likelihood of other prime roll outs and the possible inclusion of some f/4 zooms. . .

I think the 20, 24, 28, and 35 FX primes are in sore need of an update. . .

85 1.4 is long over due too. . .and I think you're pricing is pretty accurrate. . .I doubt the 28 1.4 though, didn't they release that ages ago and it didn't do well?

Soap thinks Nikon feels they already did upgrade their FX version of the 35mm 1.8 DX. It's called the 50mm 1.4 FX. You're focusing on the numbers and not on the roles. 35 1.8 is a fast standard prime for DX at a DX price. 50 1.4 is a fast standard prime for FX at a price the FX market can bear.

That said - I would expect a 85mm prime (FX) before a 35, and likely a 2x prime before the 35. I wouldn't expect any DX prime > 55mmm unless it has a Yogi factor (not your average lens) (Note this has also been true on the low end - only prime is a fisheye)

EDIT:
Oh! Prices: (in order I expect them released (If Ever))
85 1.4 FX = $1500 street
28 2.8 FX = $400 street
28 1.4 FX = $2000 street (Don't think it will be as super-priced as it was in AF-D, IF they ever rerelease it)
35 1.4 FX = $650 street

Considering the new DX format 35mm prime, I think Nikon could want to upgrade their FX version of the lens. I'm sure there's a lot of people who would like a 35mm ƒ/1.4. Personally I'd prefer a version 7mm wider but I doubt they will remake it this year.

OK GUYS,
time to bump this thread up. . .

Looks like the line up will be a
16-35 VR f/4??
100-500 VR variable aperture

No hints of primes. . .any ideas?

I'm still thinking
35 1.4 G
85 1.4 G

HOPING for a constant aperture zoom:
70-250 VR f/4

let's hope the 16-35 f/4 inspired them to add in some f/4 series lenses beyond the 12-24 f/4. . .

Pricing thoughts??

If you're going with the 14-24, then the 28/1.4 makes real sense. My old F3 kit included 20/28/55/105/200. Used the 28 and 105 most of the time. You might want to check out the 105/2.8 micro, but it's a real beast for its focal length and not as crisp as the old 105/2.5, but still a wonderful lens.

You'll probably want to wait for a new 85/1.4.

A 85mm ƒ/1.8 DX? Yes that should be 300$ considering you can't use it on FX.

I'd really like a 28mm ƒ/1.4... I mean a new one because I can't justify to overpay for something only because its rare. I'd like a 1000ish$ 28mm prime ƒ/1.4 or ƒ/1.8 I don't really need a 24mm one as I'm gonna go with the 14-24 anyway. I might just go with sigma's 28..

14-24 + very fast 28 sounds like my everyday kit... and probably a portrait lens to finish the kit, I'm not really into telephoto anyway.

I agree re 24/1.4 and 35/1.4, but believe a 85/1.8 DX VR would likely be $300-400. The 35/1.8 is just $200 and I don't see it being more than double. Besides macros are beasts comparatively and FX too.

I hope you're right about the pricing, but I doubt it.

The Old AF-D Nikon 28 f1.4 is currently going for $3000+ on the used market. We'd be lucky if the new 24 f1.4 sold for anything under $2000. The Canon "L" 24 f1.4 goes for $1699 new. Nikon's lenses are normally more expensive, but you get what you pay for.

The 35 f1.4 will have VR according to the Patent Nikon released last week. That leads me to believe it could be a niche lens - possibly a Noct successor. (I can't think of why else you would need VR on a 35mm f1.4.) If it is, it will again fall into the $1500 range or so.

The only 85 rumor I've seen is for the f1.8 VR DX macro. That will be an affordable lens - probably priced similar to the 105mm FX f2.8 VR macro.

I'm really hoping for some new DC lenses. :D

Though i would say that these guesses are less likely to come to pass within the time frame stated. even though there have been a smell of lenses oozing in the ether lately..

:-)

Others have said that their bones are aching in a particular way which indicates a new set lenses are likely to be introduced. But whether its FX or DX its not too clear yet .. :-)

I hope you're wrong, but those were the prices I was suspecting. . .

You really think the prices will drop?

So far, after the 50 1.4G was introduced, it went up 10%. . .the 35 1.8 is being sold for 10% more as well. . ..

was debating if I should pre-order these lenses given the historical rise in the prices thus far??

Global economy is still sore, so maybe they'll "correct" those price offerings. . .

I'm pretty damn happy with my Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC to be honest... (at US$250 second hand in New Zealand). A non-gelded / full-frame capable / aperture ring lens would be a nice upgrade, but the pricing is waaaaay out there.

I'd forget the 10.5 fisheye and save for the 10-24 zoom. The 10.5 is kind of interesting and at 2.8 fun in available light too. But, it is so specialized in comparison to the zoom that it almost never seems to find it's way onto my camera anymore. Before the 10-24, I used it now and then. Now, almost never.

If you can't afford the Nikon or afford to wait for it, go with a less expensive brand of wide zoom.

Same thing happened with my 60 macro. Used it quite a lot until I get the 105. Now it sits.

Re original theme of this: 24/1.4 ($1,399.95), 35/1.4 ($999.95) and 85/1.4 ($1,195.95) - higher pricing also reflects weak $. Prices will probably drop 5-15% after introduction.

And damn that 50mm ƒ/1.2 is pretty rare now I think.. I would use it on the D40 as well.. for portraits.. nice little telephoto.
